4 Day week for school

I think it would be a great idea to make a 4 day school week.
Unless you can't trust your kids at home or they are to young to be alone. There might be some good reasons not to have it as well as some good reasons to have a 4 day week. I do think it should be looked at.
Looking at the make up of our new school board members I would think they could not only fix every problem in our schools,
but fix the worlds economy and end the war.

And so after seven weeks, $700 billion dollars evaporated, seven thousand jobs a week lost, we approach Thanksgiving, Christmas MuZak playing in stores a week before Black Friday, 14 days into the newly elected administration's already-predicted-to-fail transition, Wall Street jumping up and down (mainly down) speculating on whether or not the New Guys will be able to fix the broken machine, seven weeks before they even open up for business...



Former Speaker Irv Anderson dies

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Former Minnesota House Speaker Irv Anderson has died. He was 85.
Anderson led the state House from 1993 to 1997, part of a long legislative career that started in 1964.
The Democrat from International Falls retired after the 2006 session, having represented a northern Minnesota district for almost 25 years, first in the 1960s and starting again in the 1990s. He also served as majority leader.
House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher says in a prepared statement that Anderson was a forceful voice for his constituents.

The Falls High School baseball team is moving toward a seven-day trip to spring training.
Twenty-two players and four coaches plan to attend a training expo in Cocoa, Fla., from March 29-April 5, head coach Vic Heinlen told the Falls School Board Monday. The students are planning to take a charter bus to Minneapolis before flying to Florida.
The fund raising efforts of the team for the trip have been completed. The expense of a charter bus was not included. Parents recently favored the bus over car pooling to Minneapolis, Heinlen said.

RANIER — The Ranier City Council Monday adopted a resolution which delegates to Koochiching County the responsibilities of implementing the Minnesota Wetlands Conservation Act.
Mayor Ed Oerichbauer, who could not attend the meeting, forwarded a recommendation from the Buildings, Streets, and Grounds Committee that the full council adopt the MWCA.

RECAP study moving forward

A feasibility study for a plasma gasification project planned for Koochiching County is expected to be completed by early next spring.
The study is moving forward, board member Mike Hanson told the Koochiching Economic Development Authority Monday.



L-BF School Board to meet Wednesday

The Littlefork-Big Falls school board will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the L-BF board room. It is expected to discuss a bestowal that will be made to the district.
Superintendent Fred Seybert has been informed of what could be a substantial sum bequeathed to the school from the estate of Robert W. Dahlen.
The board is also scheduled to approve the hiring of a Title I aide and a baseball coach.
The school day Dec. 15 is expected to be approved for early adjournment due to the Everyday Math program.

Basketball: RRCC men lose to Fergus Falls

Rainy River’s men’s basketball team lost 87-78 at Fergus Falls on Saturday in the opening game of the season.
The Voyageurs (0-1) were down 42-41 at halftime before getting outscored 45-37 in the second half.
Freshman Bentley Hylton finished with a team-high 26 points for RRCC, while adding four assists. Maurice Patton had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, Derek Skully added 16 points and Dylan Clarke-Knaeble chipped in with 14 points.
RRCC returns to action Friday in the Vermilion Tournament.
