John (Jack) Edward Ruberg, 73

John (Jack) Edward Ruberg, 73, of Bemidji, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Neilson Place, Bemidji, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at United Methodist Church, Bemidji, with Rev. Eric Hucke officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 21, at Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour prior to the service at the church.


Irma Jean Janzen, 73

Irma Jean Janzen, age 73, of Elk River, Minn., and formerly of Roseau and International Falls, passed away Sunday May 18, 2008 at her home in Elk River where she had resided the past nine years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, Monticello, Minn.
Interment will be at Bailey Station Cemetery, Big Lake Township, Minn.
Irma Jean Frank was born Aug. 6, 1934 in International Falls to John and Zona (Hills) Frank. She was the oldest of 16 children.
She graduated from Littlefork High School in 1952 and then left for the Twin Cities to work.


Agnes Irene Holman, 88

Agnes Irene Holman, 88, of International Falls, Minn., died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Falls Memorial Hospital, International Falls.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Mizpah Cemetery, Mizpah, Minn.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be her family and friends.
She was born May 16, 1920 in Ottertail, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Irene (Wells) Lange.

KDA board members express anger at International Falls

Frustration and anger were at the heart of a discussion over the start-up of a community development partnership that would include cities located in Koochiching County Tuesday.
Koochiching Development Authority Board members, who are the county commissioners, were split on their approach to funding the partnership. The partnership would help the smaller cities complete community projects, according to board member Wade Pavleck.


Five girls and 14 boys will graduate from the Littlefork-Big Falls School Friday.

The 2008 L-BF graduation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the new high school gymnasium.
Superintendent Fred Seybert will give the opening address to the senior class, who will be joined by their families and friends. A senior slide show will be presented.
Key speakers will be valedictorian Wesley Davis, son of Linda Davis; and salutatorian Anton Imhof, son of Lynn and Theresa Imhof.
In his last year of service, guidance counselor Nick Kantos will present scholarships to the senior recipients, according to Dean of Students Christopher Bachmeier.


Kick off meeting for study scheduled

A kickoff meeting for a feasibility study that will help determine whether a proposed plasma gasification project should move forward is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Thursday in the Rainy River Community College theater.
The meeting is intended to bring participants involved in the study together and give the public the opportunity to meet them, according to Paul Nevanen, director of the Koochiching Economic Development Authority.
The proposed Renewable Energy Clean Air Project facility would use a plasma arc to vaporize garbage.


Bronco boys beat rival Vikings

The Bronco baseball team used a five run first inning and solid pitching from Willie Corrin to lead them to a 12-7 win over Littlefork-Big Falls in a game played Tuesday afternoon at Scheela Field.
“Willie has pitched a little bit of JV so we thought with the busy week we thought we would give him some varsity action,” Bronco coach Vic Heinlen said. Corrin ended up throwing the first five innings, throwing 81 pitched and recording eight strike outs and walking three batters. Chris Heibel and Matt MacKenzie finished the game for the Falls.


Bronco girls nip Rails to move on

The Broncos softball team used a three run third inning and a six hit pitching performance from senior Ariel Lagen to edge the Proctor Rails in first round action in the 7AA section playoff opener at the Falls HIgh School softball field Tuesday afternoon.


Vikings crush Warriors, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

LITTLEFORK — Littlefork-Big Falls senior Kelly Hams can get it done from the mound and the plate. Hams pitched a complete game and hit a two-run home run, leading the Vikings softball team to a 14-4 victory over the Deer River Warriors in the opening round of the Section 7A Softball Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Littlefork.
The game was Hams’ last at Troy Janzen Field as the Vikings will now be on the road in the playoffs.
