Modernizing the district fair, By LISA KACZKE, Staff Writer

The last remaining district fair in Minnesota faced closure this year after 86 years.

The board tried to find another operator, but three other operators that service Minnesota have also gone out of business, according to board member Tom O’Connell.
Instead, the board decided to make changes to this year’s event that would create a more community-oriented fair, O’Connell told Koochiching County commissioners last week.

Settle squabble

To the editor,
For the people, of the people, by the people.
Without research, I wonder how many city council, county commissioners and smaller city representatives know who said this famous quest and what it stands for. And as far as taxpayers being intimidated, they have learned it’s a waste of time and effort. all comments and opinions fall on deaf ears.
To end this schoolyard squabble, write up a list of objectives, set a place and time and let the taxpayers vote on what they would like to see accomplished for their town and children for now and the future.
