The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said its attempting to keep trails for all-terrain and off-highway vehicles open in Koochiching County’s state forests as it works through an assessment process.
The DNR was ordered by the Minnesota Legislature to assess each trail within the many state forests to determine whether they should be open or closed to all-terrain and off-highway use. The Legislature was prompted by reports of damage to state forest trails by inappropriate trail use.

Espresso Lane manager Harley Droba and Super One manager Dave Stewart began working on the sandwich project early in the year and they started selling them just two weeks ago.
“It’s absolutely fantastic and its going over very well,” said Droba.
Designating state forest trails for their appropriate use shouldn’t be a tough job.
And in Koochiching County, it apparently hasn’t been. We’re pleased the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seems to be using a common sense approach to the mission mandated to it by the Minnesota Legislature. That mission involves assessing and designating state forest trails open or closed to all-terrain and off-highway vehicle use.
