With lake levels exceeding flood stage early this week, and more rain predicted to be on the way, Rainy Lake resort owners are worried that the inconvenience of submerged docks could become a real problem as levels creep up over the shoreline.
The Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office is expecting water levels to rise on Rainy Lake, especially with downpours in northern Minnesota heading toward the county and more rain in the forecast.
The Sheriff’s Office is not panicking yet, but “it’s a day-by-day thing,” Undersheriff Brian Jesperson told the Koochiching County Board.
Koochiching County officials say they will attempt to compromise with the county’s economic development agency on the housing of a partnership between the cities located in the county.
The Koochiching Development Authority Board agreed Tuesday to withhold the second payment of $25,000 from the Koochiching Economic Development Authority and to attempt to house the organization as a subcommittee of the KEDA.

Several Twin Cities grocery chains have removed certain varieties of tomatoes from their shelves as a precaution because of a salmonella food poisoning outbreak in other states.
Cub, Rainbow, Lunds, Byerlys, Kowalski’s and Whole Foods markets in the Twin Cities are following the lead of grocers and fast food chains elsewhere across the country.
The Food and Drug Administration is recommending that consumers avoid red plum, red roma or round red tomatoes unless they were grown in certain states and countries deemed safe.
The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission is seeking people in Koochiching County to serve on the ARDC Advisory Committee on Aging.
Responsibilities of the committee include: Acting as an advocate on behalf of the Arrowhead Region’s older population; Assisting in the development of coordinated and comprehensive services for seniors and their families; Representing the needs of consumers, organizations, and local governments; Making funding recommendations for service projects seeking funding under the federal Older Americans Act
The Pat Porter concert, part of the Wednesday Concert in the Park series, and the the 6 p.m. Story Hour, are cancelled today due to weather. Porter’s concert will be rescheduled at a later date.
Youso brothers differ in style, but both excel in hockey
There is no break from hockey in the summer for the Youso brothers.
They continue to train hard daily to reach their dream of playing at a higher level; one brother looks forward to college hockey and the younger to another great season in International Falls.
There will be a organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday for all teams interested in playing in the co-ed softball league this summer.
The meeting will be in the Falls High School cafeteria. For more information contact the Recreation Department at 283-2571 ext. 138.

On May 15, Mr. Brown’s sixth grade class from Indus School went to the state capitol to complete their studies of Minnesota history and of the state’s exciting past.
Littlefork-Big Falls High School announced its fourth quarter honor roll. The Principal’s List is for students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The A honor roll is for those with an average between 3.7 and 3.999. The B honor roll is for students achieving an average between 3.0 and 3.699.
