Alyce DeLucca, 77

Alyce DeLucca, age 77, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. At the time of her death she was living at the Imperial Grove Pavilion in Chicago, Ill.
Alyce was born Alice Nan-Marie Peterson on Dec. 23, 1930, to Martin Gustav Peterson and Florence Marie (Carnagan) Peterson. She grew up in Meadowbrook Township, in Koochiching County, near Littlefork, Minn. on her parent’s farm until she left to pursue further education in Chicago.

Texas’ costly legal lesson

The cost of a raid on a polygamist camp in Texas in April has been estimated at more than $14 million.
Texas authorities appear to have acted in good faith when they reacted to a call about child abuse at the camp, and later when the state gave custody of 460 children to child protective services agencies.
However, good faith in a case like this may not be enough. What was needed was clear, hard evidence.

County scheduled to hear Burner Road update

The Koochiching County Board is scheduled to hear an update on issues involving a portion of Minnesota Highway 332, known as the Burner Road, during its meeting Tuesday.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. in the courthouse boardroom.
During Highway Department business at 11:15 a.m., the board is expected to authorize the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust to assign legal council to represent the county.


Residency requirements for certain Falls city employees to be set

The International Falls City Council is expected to accept a committee recommendation to set residency requirements for certain employees when it meets tonight.
The Falls City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the Municipal Building.
The council is expected to hear a recommendation from its Human Resources Committee to approve a first reading of an ordinance that will set residency requirements for certain city positions.
In addition, the city is scheduled to hear a report on its 2007 audit, conducted by the firm of Miller McDonald.


Young director to film in Borderland

Rachel Adams, a 14-year-old freshman at Falls High School, will need local actors and extras for a small film that will be shot in International Falls this summer.
The film, titled “The Freedom Bird” is about three teens dealing with violence and bullying at their school. The production team hopes that it will have impacting value, according to Rachel’s father, Jeff Adams, who will serve as director of photography on the film.


Aaron Skoglund is heading to AAU Nationals, By TOM LAVENTURE, Staff Writer

Aaron Skoglund, 17, the son of Michael and Lisa Skoglund, is heading to Orlando, Fla., from July 26 to Aug. 2 with the 17U High Impact team, an all-star team that will compete for the Amateur Athletic Union national title for their age group in basketball.
Skoglund, who will be a senior next year at Falls High School, is also set to captain the boys basketball team.
Skoglund is currently the 17th highest scorer all-time in Falls High School history with 710 points, and should move up the list next season as he pushes towards 1,000 points.


United Way schedules county motorcycle cruise

The Kooch County Cruise motorcycle rally for United Way is coming up on Saturday, June 21st.
The event begins with a pancake breakfast by the Alano Club from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration follows until the 11 a.m. departure from Timber Pins in the Falls.
The cost is $35 per rider. Free T-shirts are give to the first 100 registered riders. Visit www.unitedwaynemn.org/koochcruise to register or in person at Northern Auto Parts in the Falls.
