Luanne J. Graves, 34

Luanne J. Graves, 34, of Libby, Mont., died July 8, 2008, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center from injuries received from a motor vehicle accident. She was born Sept. 22, 1973 in Libby, Mon., to Russell and Lois Petrie Graves.
Her children were the biggest priority of her life. She loved the outdoors, which included camping, swimming and fishing. She also enjoyed cooking and music. She was a member of the Libby Christian Church.


Puppy progress: Chloe’s growing

“Chloe Marie: Little Bit o’ Tirzah” visited The Journal Thursday and looks to be progressing adorably.
“She’s taking pablum (a softly runny cereal) now,” said Jan Bohman, who has been moved by the community’s compassion. “Everyone wants to know how she’s doing, and wants to see her.”
The bitty Yorkie often sleeps on her chest, Bohman added as she tenderly kisses the top of the dog’s tiny head.


Littlefork to announce three new staff, By FAYE WHITBECK, Staff Writer

The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board is expected to select three individuals from applicants for open positions at the school, at its regular meeting Wednesday.
The positions of Spanish instructor at .33 of the full time equivalent; home economics instructor at half of F.T.E.; and a student services coordinator at .2 F.T.E.
The board is also scheduled to hear a recommendation from the athletic coach to open the head baseball coaching position for advertisement. Todd Sether currently serves as the head baseball coach.

Ross family legacy lives on in golf tournament, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

When the name Larry Ross pops up in a conversation northern Minnesota, most people think hockey.
Ross spent 31 seasons behind the bench for the Falls High Broncos and finished his career with a record of 566 victories, 169 losses and 21 ties. Ross’s Broncos won six Minnesota Boys’ State Hockey Tournaments in his tenure.
Aside from being a legendary high school hockey coach, Larry Ross loved the game of golf.
Today, Falls Country Club honors his contributions to golf and the legacy of the Ross family with the Ross Memorial Golf Tournament.


Great trip; disappointing ending

I recently stayed in one of the most beautiful places on God's green earth, International Falls, Minn.!
I am a veteran of the war in Iraq and have been to many countries around the world in my time in the service, but never had been to place more scenic and relaxing.

Northome plans future of industrial park, By TOM LAVENTURE, Staff Writer

The Northome Industrial Park broke ground as the newest industrial park in Koochiching County in 2000.
It recently upgraded with 10 shovel-ready acres with potential expansion for 40 more. The park is located two miles east of Northome on Minnesota Highway 1. It is zoned for manufacturing, has utilities and is ready for tenants. Twenty acres of the park are designated as JOBZ, making tenents potentially eligible for state benefits.

Rebecca Barnett and Ricky Gordon are parents of a daughter, Emily Rose Gordon, born July 2, 2008.
Emily weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are John and Brenda Vedaa.
Great-grandparents are Dave and Shirley Halbrook.
Paternal grandparents are Peggy Gordon and Vernon Dahl and Butch Gordon and Deanna Gordon.
Great-grandparents are Violet Carrigan and Wayne Gordon.


Looking Back at July 15

10 YEARS AGO
Gladys Blanchard, Bill Elliott and John Kalstad cut the ribbon during grand opening ceremonies at the newly expanded and redesigned 18-hole Falls Country Club Friday morning.
The third annual Boelk family reunion was held recently at McKinley Park on Lake Vermilion.

25 YEARS AGO
Sheila Perkins has been hired for women’s athletics at Rainy River Community College. She will teach physical education and coach women’s sports at Rainy River Community College this fall.
