I was wondering if anyone knew who owns the apartments on main street? How do you contact the owners...what about rental housing in I. Falls? Any contact info would be appreciated. Thanks


Valeria (Larry) Engelking, 88

Valeria (Larry) Engelking, 88, of the Littlefork Care Center, passed away July 19, 2008 at Falls Memorial Hospital. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was born to Ernest and Lillian Hodel on July 9, 1920 in Wahpeton, N.D She moved to International Falls in 1940 and was married to John Engelking in June 1941.


Andrew (Andy) Krzoska Jr., 76

Andrew “Andy” Krzoska Jr., 76, was sent to us by God on Sept. 7, 1931, born at home in Pencer, Minn. to Josephine (Virkus) and Andrew Krzoska Sr. He was at home surrounded by his family when he was called back to Heaven by God on Saturday, July 19, 2008.
He attended the County School in Pencer, Minn. After losing his mother to cancer, he was blessed with a wonderful woman, Esther Skime, to call his new mom.

Past dealings involving employee of developer raise questions

Bill Rieser, an employee of Ultimate Development LLC, says his past dealings with failed companies has no bearing on a plan to develop property along the Rainy River.
Rieser is the focus of an anonymous package of information sent to city officials and others recently in the community. The package presented information about Rieser’s involvement in business dealings in the 1990s.


Borderland Humane Society to meet with county board Tuesday

The Borderland Humane Society is scheduled to give an update on its programs during the Koochiching County Board meeting Tuesday.
The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the courthouse boardroom.
Robyn Ramquist, of the humane society, is scheduled to speak to the board at 2:15 p.m.
Public comment period is scheduled to follow the humane society’s presentation.


DNR planting many trees

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources plants trees on state lands to reforest harvested areas, provide wildlife habitat, protect watershed values, and maintain the quality of state forests, according to the DNR.
Professional foresters determine the tree species appropriate for the site. Private contractors hired by the DNR do the actual planting.
“Herbicides will be applied to approximately 90 acres of state land in the Littlefork area to help establish new forests”, said Eric Buchanan Littlefork area forester.

Falls VFW baseball team wraps season in Grand Rapids, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

The 2008 season came to an end for the International Falls VFW baseball team this past weekend. The Falls won one game and lost two in the Sub-District Tournament at Grand Rapids.
The Falls entered the tournament as the four seed with a record of 13-13. Grand Rapids was the No. 1 seed followed by Hibbing, Chisholm the Falls and Nashwauk.
In game one, the Falls squared off with Chisholm, winning the game 6-4.
Left hander Chad Sohlman got the start on the mound going all seven innings for the complete game victory.

Ashling, Dougherty

Stacy Ashling and Aaron Dougherty, of Bemidji and formerly of International Falls, announce their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

Stacy is the daughter of Barb Weisinger, Mt. Iron, and Neil Weisinger, Winton. Aaron is the son of Dwayne and Wendy Dougherty, International Falls.

Stacy is a 2001 graduate of Ely Memorial High School. She is a home health aide and a stay-at-home mom to the couple’s 7-month-old daughter, Reagan. She will be attending Lake Superior College Online this fall for her certificate in the hemodialysis technician program.
