Marvel Katherine ‘Dode’ Woods, 88

Marvel Katherine (Dode) Woods, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2008, surrounded by her family in Ranier, after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Ranier, Minn. She resided on Rainy River in Ranier her entire life, spending summers on Namakan Lake, where her family had a commercial fish camp.
She attended grade school in Ranier, graduating from Falls High School in 1938.
Marvel was united in marriage to Edmund Curtis Woods on July 1, 1940, and remained married for 56 years until his death in 1996.
Together, they had 12 children.


Herman G. Yoder

Herman G. Yoder went to be with his personal Lord and Savior July 24, 2008.
He was born Oct. 8, 1926, at home to Amish parents Mahlon and Sarah of rural Wolford, N.D.
The fourth of 10 children, he attended Pierce County school until grade eight, taking his state tests while in the hospital for rheumatic fever.


Lorna Louise Holler, 77

Lorna L. Holler, 77, of International Falls, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Twins Fan Extraordinaire, passed away in her sleep Thursday, July 24, 2008, at home after a lengthy battle with kidney cancer.
Lorna was born Aug. 4, 1930, in International Falls, the daughter of Joseph “Jim” and Nellie (Servis) Steele.
She moved from Swift, Minn., with her family at the age of 8, to International Falls, where she had since resided.
Lorna was a longtime dedicated member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.


Jerry G. Schwab, 65

Jerry G. Schwab, 65, Cook, formerly of International Falls, passed away at his residence Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
He was born Jerome Gregory Schwab June 4, 1943, at Blue Grass in Wadena County, Minn. He grew up in International Falls, where he lived for many years. He moved to the Range area in the late 1970s and had resided in the Cook area since 1983.
He married Annette M. Herberg Nov. 6, 1976, at Sisseton, S.D.
Jerry was a self employed flooring installer for 42 years, retiring in 2004, due to health reasons.
His hobbies included working, reading, and earlier had enjoyed fishing.

Littlefork taxing district meeting scheduled for Tuesday

The Littlefork City Council has scheduled the annual meeting of the Littlefork Ambulance Taxing District Board of Directors for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to adopt the proposed 2009 ambulance service budget and the 2008 collectible 2009 tax levy.
The meeting at the Littlefork Community Building on Main Street is open to the public.

Don Johnson had kept a journal during a couple of months in the winter of 1936 and except for some letters and a few months of journals in 1940 and a few months in 1942, his nine years as caretaker and boatman at the Dahlberg summer estate, Redcrest, is undocumented.

Haylee Wimmer, Littlefork, and Charlie Little, Littlefork, were united in marriage Saturday, Jan 5, 2008, at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nev.

Haylee is the daughter of Rob and Candice Wimmer, Littlefork, and Charlie is the son of Terry and Sharon Little, Littlefork.

Attending the bride were her sister, Lacey Wimmer, and friends Christina Heinlen and Jennifer Promersberger.

Serving as the groom’s attendants were his brother, Abe Little, and friends Erik Lund, Bob Heinlen and Nick Horne.
