Paul MacDonald Shaw passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Born Jan. 13, 1926, to Robert and Lillian Shaw in Henning, Minn., Paul was raised from early childhood in International Falls with his four brothers and sisters.
After an early graduation from high school, Paul joined the navy in 1943 and served until his discharge in 1946, when he returned to the University of Minnesota to attend law school, graduating in 1949.
He was married to Beverly McCord in 1949. The couple moved to Deer River in 1950 where Paul set up his law practice, which he maintained for the next 54 years.

Richard Willis Titus, of International Falls, Minn., died at his home on Friday, July 25, 2008. He was 86 years of age.
Richard was born Aug. 25, 1921, in International Falls, Minn., and was a lifelong resident of the Falls.
He was united in marriage to Genevieve (Erickson) Titus-Handley for 35 years and was a devoted friend and companion of Elizabeth (Betty) Ericson for over 30 years.
Richard worked for Boise Cascade as a machine tender for over 42 years.

Shellie Monrean of International Falls has a rejuvenated faith in America after driving a 1930 Ford Model A automobile for 1,125 miles along Midwestern back roads from Minnesota to Pennsylvania. She saw that an old car and a good cause seemed to bring out the best in people. 

The Falls High Broncos boys’ basketball team competed in its final event of the summer this past weekend at the Pacesetter MIT in St. Cloud.
The tournament format placed 44 teams in four divisions with 11 teams in each division. The tournament was a mix of all four classes in the state of Minnesota. The state currently has four divisions, A, AA, AAA and AAAA. The Broncos currently compete in the AA division. Teams from South Dakota and North Dakota also participated.

In spite of negative headlines regarding challenging economic conditions, failed banks and the ongoing credit crisis, the banking industry is solid and strong. The industry — which includes traditional federally insured, federally regulated depository institutions, your local commercial bank, thrift or savings bank — is well-regulated and even profitable.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty is on the right track with proposals on health care policies for state workers.
The proposals are to be a test run for the polices that would be brought to more Minnesotans in future years.

Most children love to be outside. A good activity for fun and learning is to plant something together and watch it grow. It doesn’t matter if you want to plant vegetables or flowers, there is a lot to be learned from the planting process from start to finish.

Students graduate from BSU
Seven students from International Falls graduated from Bemidji State University at the end of the 2008 spring semester.

Amy Johnson, Minneapolis, and Olaf Jorgenson, Minneapolis, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

Amy is the daughter of Anthony and Dawn Johnson, International Falls.

Olaf is the son of Nathan and Teresa Jorgenson, Fairmont.

The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Falls High School and in 2005 received a bachelor degree in political science and business from Concordia College, Moorhead. She is employed as firm administrator at Nichols Kaster, PLLP, Minneapolis.

Vanessa Bannert and Brian York announce the arrival of their daughter, Annika Madeline Rose York, 6 pounds, 9.4 ounces, 20 inches long, born Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Falls Memorial Hospital.
Maternal grandparents are Bruce and Julie Clayton and Richard Bannert.
Great-grandparents are Glenn Bannert and Shirlee Bannert.
Paternal grandparents are Bill and Rose York.
Great-grandparents are Jim and Velarie York.
