Robert “Bob” Poster, 79, International Falls, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1928, in International Falls and graduated from Falls High School in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Barbara E. Keczmerek on Dec. 15, 1958, in Chicago, Ill.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and was a member of the International Falls Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Anna (Baron) Poster; his wife, Barbara; and sister, Ann (Leonard) Nord.

The Falls High School cafeteria was filled Monday with people who voiced support for Dianne Briggs, who was terminated as the FHS Indian Education program director in July.
Attempts by Falls School Board Chairwoman Robin Baumchen to keep the discussion on the Indian Education program at less than 10 minutes were overridden by those who spoke and provoked laughter at the Falls School Board.

The International Falls City Council Monday agreed to focus its efforts on more intense economic development initiatives.
As a result, the council agreed to keep $25,000 of the $50,000 it annually provides to the Koochiching Economic Development Authority for use on intensive efforts toward job creation and retention.
The reduction in money to the KEDA puts the city on par with the amount of money that the Koochiching County Board has agreed to provide. The county board recently cut by $25,000 the amount it will provide to the KEDA and will instead use the money to fund a city alliance.

After months of planning, a one-day event to help Borderland veterans in crisis will be held in International Falls.
The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans in conjunction with the International Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Peter Graham Post 2948 will host a “StandDown” event for veterans from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Kerry Park Arena at Fourth Avenue and Eleventh Street.



Rec Commission plans review

The International Falls City Council Monday appointed Councilor Cynthia Jaksa to represent the city on the International Falls Recreation Commission.
The commission is scheduled to review its joint powers agreement on Wednesday and Joe Schwartz, chairman, encouraged the city representatives to attend.
Schwartz said the review will discuss a proposal to bring a request to voters in November 2009 to approve an operating levy that should help to reduce the fee amount for students to participate in activities.

An experienced guitarist and a budding vocalist have formed Audio Omen, a classic rock band that writes and records original material. The International Falls duo note that to be a full-time Borderland band means that they cannot survive on club gigs alone.
Audio Omen was founded by Joe Tilander, a lifelong guitarist who works as a technician for The Computer Fix in International Falls. He also applies his technology background to his music and made the additional investment of building his own home recording studio.



Curves holds seventh anniversary open house

Becky Olson, owner of Curves in International Falls, celebrated the seventh anniversary of her women’s aerobic and strength training workout center with an open house this weekend.
The event was to thank customers for helping realize the goal of creating a fun, supportive environment for women’s health.
With more than 10,000 locations in dozens of countries, Curves is the world’s largest fitness franchise. The company’s 30 minute Curves workout is said to work every major muscle group with strength training, cardio and stretching.

No Borders Rally planned at Rainy River Community College

The Christian Motorcyclists Association will conduct their No Borders Rally Wednesday through Saturday at Rainy River Community College.
Registration and goodie tables open at 1 p.m. Wednesday and runs until 7:30 with the first seminar at 7 with Roger Wilson.
Registration is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday with a seminar at 9 with John Ogden Jr. Bag lunch in the college cafeteria commons will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guided bike tours and self-guided points of interest include:
1 p.m. - Guided tour to Ash River
1-2:30 - Visitation at Falls Good Samaritan Center
3-7:30 p.m. - Registration
