The beach and dogs

I find it interesting that i step on the beach sand with my dog on a leash for two minutes and am told no pets on the beach. I was dropping off my son and asked some family members if they could bring him home.
The next day i was at the beach and there were unleashed dogs on the beach without anyone saying or doing anything about it.

Shirley Bernice Haley, 93, of International Falls, Minn., passed away after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was called home Aug. 1, 2008.
She was born Dec. 3, 1914, in International Falls and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Falls High School with the Class of ‘34.
The former Shirley Gardner was united in marriage to Maurice “Buzz” Haley on June 24, 1938, in International Falls at the St. Thomas Parsonage.



Reginald Alford Emmert, 65

Reginald Alford Emmert, Littlefork, Minn., died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at his home. He was 65 years of age.
Reginald was born March 11, 1943, in Jackson, Mich., and grew up in Owosso, Mich. He graduated from Owosso High School and then went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in forestry. He worked for the United States Forestry Service in Alaska from 1966 to 1969.

In the early days of local paper manufacturing, the first step of the process was floating logged trees into “booms” on Rainy Lake where they merged with thousands of others for the journey west.
These booms made their hurdled journey around Rainy’s bottle necked island points and narrowed rock passages until they reached the wide open spaces of Sand Bay.



Falls City Council to consider proposal for design services

The International Falls City Council is scheduled to hear a proposal for the architectural design services for the Irvin N. Anderson Amphitheater when it meets tonight.
The Falls City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Municipal Building.
The amphitheater is a part of the city’s plans for the waterfront area along Rainy River, which is expected to include the headquarters for Voyageurs National Park, a marina, boat launch, walking and biking trails and picnic areas.



Littlefork City Council approves ambulance service budget

The Littlefork City Council approved Thursday the proposed 2009 Ambulance Service Budget and the 2008 collectible 2009 Tax Levy in the amount of $46,000.
The Littlefork Ambulance Service Taxing District Board of Directors met Tuesday and adopted the proposal which they presented to the council for approval Thursday.



Falls Little Leaguers take third at state

The International Falls 11 year old All-Star Baseball Team recently competed in the Little League State Tournament. The tournament was held at Carl Eck Park in Circle Pines.
The Falls got off to a slow start in the tournament falling to Plymouth/New Hope 16-0 in the team’s first game. The Falls got bit by the error bug committing five errors in the contest.
The Falls bats were silenced in the contest coming up with only one hit in the game. Ben Humbert, Cole Miggins, Jackson Vollom and Rylan Hendrickson each saw action on the mound for the Falls.
