O-PUN Season

It has always been amazing to me how much we seem to enjoy being around those who know so much less then we do that we want to be the first to correct them with our wit. It occurred to me that we can seldom even know what the intentions of the "nit-wit" were, so it would be risky to venture into his darkness and make much comment. As an example, I thought some "O-PUN" season might be in order, as it is open season, you know! The following is in order...!

What Are We Going To Do Now

I was thinking about all those blogs we entertained last fall about the high cost of heat and the cost of rent "last winter" when prices were "so cheap". Several individuals on this site were concerned about the city and county helping low income folks out with some of these costs. Has anybody even begun to imagine what the cost of heating homes in Northern Minnesota is going to be like next winter? Can you imagine a heating bill of $15.00 to $18.00 per day to heat your house with "cheap" natural gas, "cheap" propane or "cheap" fuel oil? Well whats the decision going to be today?

Getting involved in our city

It sometimes takes a jump start, sometimes just a cup of coffee, and sometimes a little push from a friend with common interests.

Nicknames of Past

Some time back, it came up briefly, that we used to have an entirely different way of identifying each other up here in the woods. I thought I would list a few alias's that I remember and then leave it to all you folks out there to complete the list.

Swede Charlie, Gabby Russell, Skinny Minnie Bluefin, Root House Pete, Big Swede, Fan.y, Tony Baloony, Garv, Slat, Paco 1, Paco 2, Dutch, Dutchy, Dumbo,Ski, Squaw Alec, Porky, Tiny, Moon Pie,Cootie, Jocko, Gutter, Tork, Slim, Skunko, Crosscut...there are many more but now its your turn.

Spring In Northern Minnesota

The First Nations call it Ziigiwan, a time of renewal. This is true and its also the time to start the New Year. Many in the rest of the country think that the New Year starts on January 1st but actually the New Year starts in Northern Minnesota on about the first of April.

Things that are now going on with fervor:
1. dock work/dock building being finished
2. lower units being refilled with "hypo 90", 2-cycle oil being bought
3. red horse being speared/smoked
4. resorts rehooking up water lines, painting boats, leveling cabins

Re-election of leaders

Re-election of leaders being such a rabid discussion topic and such an important decision for all of us, I decided to write some things we might consider to prevent us all from making a mistake in our

Thats pretty old

Well dad turned 92 years old today. I had asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he thought about it for awhile and answered matter of factly, "get me some sandpaper, I am out of sand paper".
