Does Borderland have any places that are haunted?

Halloween started out cool, dark and a little creepy.

Makes us think there must be some haunted places in Borderland.

Any body got any stories about local haunted places they would share today?

Yes definately some very haunted places. If you look up into the top windows of the court house on a night that has a moon, especially a full moon, you will see the ghost of a man that was "hung" many years ago. They say he walks the streets late at night when its cold and raining. Also, many won't know this, but the biggest and most haunted of all houses was the old house that used to stand on the southwest side of HWY53 on the corner between Rogers corner and Ericsburg just south about a 1/4 mile south of the rat root river. A new house is on this property now but the old trees and I think an old white pine is still standing. It was even officialy called the "ghost house". I once seen 13 ghosts fly straight through the roof of this old house late at night. Tonight is an especially ghosty night for downtown, for sure. It is well known that on Halloween night, you never walk down main street on the sidewalk next to the old buildings. The meanest and baddest of ghosts hang out in the "dark" entry ways of those old buildings and will grab you and take you upstairs into their lairs. It would be awful. I hear they will bite you on the neck and suck all your blood out--while you are still alive. When you wake up, back on the side walk, all your blood will have been replaced with green blood from toads. I don't know if thats all true, its just what I hear. Walk down main street tonight if you don't believe me and see for yourself if you don't see ghosts in some of the upstairs windows. If you walk downtown tonight you better walk close to the curb or even on the street or they will get you. There are other specific buildings that are known to be haunted in town also but due to the fact that people still live in these houses I would not want to mention them, at this time. One thing I know is true, for sure this is true, if you look under the bridge on Halloween night, you will see a man sitting on the rock pile under the bridge, holding his head in his arms and feeding himself candy that he got from various houses in town during the night. If his eyes see your eyes then your house will be the first house he visits next year. Happy Halloween

LOL...great story. Now, I'm not really sure if the house we used to live in was haunted or not but several strange things would happen at certain times of the day and night in certain areas of the house. Strangest of all was the upstairs bathroom toilet would flush all by itself at precisely 12 noon each day. In the living room the smell of a lit match was noticeable then the smell of a cigar always near the entrance as if a man's easy chair may have been placed there at one time. All of the smoke alarms would go off at intervals as if playing "musical alarms". My youngest sons toy (battery operated) firetruck and helicopter would sound off suddenly...at night when everyone was asleep or everyone was downstairs having dinner, etc. And last but not least, there was always this feeling someone was watching you when you went down in the basement. The way the basement was set up was kind of creepy.

Thanks Laurel. I always wanted to start a blog about this! Good night to do it...

I don't know how much of what Anton says is true, but I have heard the courthouse one. Apparently they actually used that as a gallows at one time.

I had a hair-raising experience in the basement of Backus two years ago. I was waiting out front to pick up my daughter from basketball. Kids were coming out and getting in their parents' cars, but after a few minutes, still no child. So, I went in and the whole building was dark. Where could she be?? I headed to the basement where the showers are located. Pitch black. Creepy. I thought, "There's got to be a light switch around here somewhere!!" I could hear the boiler going and was using my right hand to guide me along the wall thinking I would either come across a lightswitch or the locker room. When WHAM! Something ran into my left side, past me, and knocked me back onto the wall. Scared the bejeebers out of me! There was nothing in that loooonnnng hallway that I could've run into (I got some courage to check when my daughter was with me :-).

The old Kettle Falls Motel is quite haunted. At night you can still hear the piano playing...

There is a ghost of a woman name Mable that haunts Kmart. She is only active at night. Especially after the store closes, when the overnight crew is there. She would move objects and throw items on the floor when there is no way that item could fall on its own. Sometimes you will hear a woman whispering in the next isle. When you go look there is no one around. But she is a friendly ghost.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the ghost, Bob, from Island View Lodge. The fishing guides should have lots of stories about him and also the waitresses and bartenders.
