Special session
September 11, 2007 - 11:26am — Laurel Beager
Gov. Tim Pawlenty Monday called for a special session that begins at 5 p.m. today and could be finished yet today. He has limited the session to the topic of approving flood relief. Some Minnesotans wanted the governor to include action on a long-term transportation spending plan and a bill that would provide property tax breaks to homeowners in places where rates are climbing fast. Locally, International Falls City Council has urged the governor to allow for a tax relief plan that would have provided an additional $400,000 to the city this year. But Pawlenty says tax relief and transportation will wait until the 2008 regular session convenes in February. Should Pawlenty have limited the session to flood relief? Should he have allowed for more topics at this special session? What are your thoughts?

The special session should...
Back to page topThe special session should be for special circumstances, not opportunistic political attempts to put the spotlight on topics that should be vetted during a regular session. Job well done, governor.

Where is all the flooding...
Back to page topWhere is all the flooding taking place?? The sump pump in his basement is probably broken and he needed it fixed. Flooding takes place in Minnesota every year, (near alot of the rivers). I've got an idea; why not put the Minnesota people back to work and get them off welfare. Then you can use the welfare money to inspect and repair the bridges that are falling into the river. I'm sure that idea is on the 2008 regular session list.
Welfare again?? Kinda...
Back to page topWelfare again?? Kinda beatin' a dead horse there Roger. Now, let all the people from the jails do some work, and I'd be all for that.
