Are You Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
November 14, 2007 - 9:10am — Schmitty53
For me there's only one way to say it and thats the way I was raised. I will not bow down to the wishes of a few. For me it's Merry Christmas with a capital "C". How about you? Please watch this short music video and have your sound up and enjoy! AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAckfn8yiAQ

Back to page topI too agree with Merry Christmas (let's keep Christ in Christmas), but I also have to be careful in my office because not everyone is Christian. For example, one of my superiors is Jewish and therefore either Happy Holidays or Happy Hanukkah is more appropriate.

Back to page topIf you ask me I would go with Merry Christmas, I find it most appropriate but I think we are missing the point here. The point is that Christmas is a time for joy and for sharing good thought and feelings. We should cherish that and learn to love more. I am specially impressed with the beauty of Christmas itms: decorations, ornaments, trees, gifts, everything, they make me fee joyful.

BPARS, So "you" have to say...
Back to page topBPARS,
So "you" have to say Happy Holidays, but the "Head Jew" says "Happy Hanukkah" is OK?? Very interesting!! Can't mention "Christ", but ANYTHING Jewish is "kosher"?? Got Ya!! Tell em to go to hell for me!
I too am very sick and tired...
Back to page topI too am very sick and tired of Americans having to kiss butt in OUR country...little kids in school can't decorate their class rooms in some schools because it might offend the 1 or 2 Muslim kids...(the idiot liberal teachers can't figure out that they can decorate the classroom with EVERYONES choice of holidays). America has taken the wrong path in many ways in trying to appease. I believe in being courteous and respectful of others faiths, but not to the point of sacrificing mine!
MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

Here we go boys and girls,...
Back to page topHere we go boys and girls, grab your white hoods because the rally is ready to begin.
Most Jews and Muslims are Americans. Believe it or not, it is their country too. Who are you referring to when you say 'Our' country...white Christians?
Keeping religion out of schools is necessary from a practical standpoint because not every single faith and/or belief system can be celebrated. What happens when the child of a satanic cult member wants to celebrate?
We live in a plural society. Saying Happy Holiday's has less to do with being politically correct than with being considerate of the fact that people are different.
If parents want their kids to celebrate Christmas at school then they should send them to a Christian school.

paradox, Thanks for telling...
Back to page topparadox,
Thanks for telling me about the rally, but you failed to mention what time it starts. Do I have time to get my "hood" out of the cleaners?? I sure would like to get "TLJ's" perspective on your comments about religion in school!! Boy am I drawing the people out of the woodwork today! Way to go roj!!!! White Christians, Hmmmmmmm???? Did I say something wrong? I sent my kids to "Catholic schools", first and foremost, for a GOOD education. They also learned quite a bit of good things about religion too!! AND were allowed to say "Merry Christmas" without feeling guilty! And there were many Jewish children who came there for a good education, and didn't mind one bit about the "Christmas" thing!! In fact they enjoyed getting presents "twice" instead of "once" like us dumb Christians!!!!
Missed your cue as I was...
Back to page topMissed your cue as I was temporarily out of the country. I gave it to roj below and hate to reiterate but that`s what we do here.
My view is simple: if you love religion, you don`t want it in the school unless it is a church supported school. I serve on the board of Minnehaha Academy and they have a responsibilty to have religion in the school. All students, whether Presbyterian or Jewish, sit through classes in religion. In the state schools, which I attended and support, religion can be taught, but as a subject. Religiously specific celebrations cannot be included because faith is too important to let professional schools handle it. In Europe, they cross that line and it has killed off religion in all but the Muslim communities. They actually have laws requiring crucifixes on the walls. So count your blessings. America is a functioning secular democracy that just happens to have the most viable communities of faith of any advanced nation in the world. In fact, it actually disproves the theory that as people become wealthy they abandon belief. And we have a competition in religion that is as healthy as our competition in retail. If you don`t do it well, you´ll be out of business.
My take, paradox.
TLJ, Stop soundng like a...
Back to page topTLJ,
Stop soundng like a "hypocrit"!! One minute you love religion, but then on the other hand, you don't want it in a "government/state" school?? I can't believe that all of these ludicrous/nutjobs that don't want prayer in public schools, or don't want the word "God" spoken, when reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance, are ALL "lovers of religion". Please give me a break! Sure the people in Europe are doing these rediculous things such as requiring crucifixes on walls, but why? Because like I said to you just a moment ago, they are "behind the power curve of society". They don't get it, and probably never will. That is why alot of their citizens want to come to America!! And I don't buy your statement that "specific religious celebrations cannot be included because faith is too important to let professional schools handle it"! Professional schools? Do you mean Public and/or Government schools? Religious schools ARE the "professional schools"! Thats a fact, Jack!!!! We don't have the shootings, thugs running around with their pants down below their butt-cracks! No, we wear uniforms, have strict codes of conduct, etc.... Just like the public schools USED TO HAVE!! But now they are "run a muck" and can't even have Christmas. And you wonder why the majority of Public schools are failures? So, I guess you "gave it to me", ouch!!!! I never thought you were "hung up" on policital correctness, especially to the point of "clouding" your very educated brain! You can't have it both ways! You either like/love religion or you don't! Just like you either like alcohol or you don't! It sounds like the old story of the "tail wagging the dog". That's what the PC Police are doing to society, and some people are buying it! Not me, brother!!
The reason most of our...
Back to page topThe reason most of our ancestors left Europe was due to the state imposing a particular religion on them. Now the "wingnuts" as roj1950 calls them, want to reinstitute state-sanctioned religion. Our ancestors got it and that´s why we are a great country.
TLJ, Did I use the term...
Back to page topTLJ,
Did I use the term "wingnuts"? I have not heard that term in years! I thought I said, "nutjobs"!! I think you misinterpret my thoughts, I'm all against forced religion, "ever since my grade school Principle, forced us to go to churches and study religion, or we would be punished". We were tortured back in those days, and now you would go to jail if you treated students like those teachers and Principles did in those days!! Let's just take "in God we trust" off our money too! By the way, if anyone does not like their money, with the "forced religion" on it, pls send it to my address. I will pay you 50 cents on the dollar for it!
Now that is a very correct...
Back to page topNow that is a very correct observation for the most part, but I won't get nit-picky, Tom. God forbid the US ever ends up with a "state sanctioned religion" as then we know the US is in deep yogurt! One of the most misconstrued statements that is used all the time but entirely out of context is "separation of church and state", which means the federal government shall not dictate to the people what religions they can and cannot partake in. It seems you have a fairly good grasp of American History and I totally respect that. And its one of my main area of study. If you want to get some very accurate information about Americas Godly Heritage, check out www.wallbuilders.com They have a wealth of information which I know you and roj2000 and some other would find useful and very interesting.
You help keep these postings interesting, keep up the good work.
One nation under God
I am going to put myself out...
Back to page topI am going to put myself out on a limb here, but in reference to your "white Christian" comment, there is another aspect to think about.
I cannot even begin to think about the number of charities that have been founded and continue to work by us "white christians". In Texas I worked at a food pantry that was run by "white christians" and the majority of the recipients were of minority descent. Only one or two minority families actually worked at the food pantry. If it wasn't for us "white christians" they would not have this service available to the community.
How many of people would be without food, clothing, presents at Christmas, and many other items if it were not for us "white christians" and our belief in caring for our fellow neighbors.
Jesus is the reason for the season, and the reason why many of us continue to help those out in need, even as our own way of life and our own beliefs are being persecuted.
Merry CHRISTmas. :)

Back to page topkellib---- you have the right to tell what you think, never be afraid to do so. Our forefathers fought and died for this right. The Warriors in the armed forces are doing this at this very minute. We the American people should not be told what we can or cannot do by people who pour into our country leagally or illeagally who have not earned this right. The American people can have compassion for another human being but never buckle under to them. Too great a price has been paid. How we as Americans celebrate Christmas as a tradtion or the birth of our Savior should never be taken away from us.God Bless our troops who will not be with their families at this glorious time of year.

Back to page topWell said six-shooter, I appreciate you recognizing those troops who will be 6-7000 miles from home and the loneliness and heartache they will experience during their deployment. Also,Often I have commented on the anger and disgust I feel when illegal aliens demand we learn their language! How arrogant is that? It goes without saying that the onus is on them to learn English as that is the legally recognized language in the US. Americans have many times demonstrated their compassion for the less fortunate, and I hope that continues for a very long time...as John Kennedy said "America is a great country because its a good country, and when we stop being good, we stop being great" a very well put statement.
Keep up the great posts six shooter!
Have a really great Thanksgiving

Now this is a perfect...
Back to page topNow this is a perfect example of a watered down mentality! You are the type of person who should learn to stand for something, or, as the saying goes, you will fall for anything...and apparently you have fallen to the lies of the liberal agenda. If you don't have the guts to stand proud of your religion and your country and the like, what kind of a wimp are you? And what is this news that most Jews and Muslims are Americans? I think you need a geography lesson. And another thing is, no Allah fearing Muslim is going to worry about offending you or me, and I sure as heck don't worry about offending them or anyone else by being a Christian. I have said it many, many times that the United States was founded as a Christian Nation, and despite the best efforts of the liberals, still is. And anyone who does not believe that either can't read or chooses to ignore the truth. And paradox, as far as getting out the hoods, how do you know that I am not black? Living in a "plural society" does not mean we have to give up standing up for what we believe in.
One nation under God
You say "One nation under...
Back to page topYou say "One nation under God" as if there's only one nation on the planet blessed by this character. What makes you so Holy that approves your permission to state that this nation is beneath the protection of some high power? And why isn't this nation under Allah or Buddha? Are they so inferior as beliefs that they couldn't possibly provide protection for your ooooh sooooo precious nation?
So you're under the impression that the Christian children are suffering because the Muslim's have suffered in the past due to a lack of proper decoration? Why do you celebrate your holiday in the first place? Is this because you love your "God" or is it because it's what you've traditionally done since you were a child, the tradition of give and take but no true reason.
Christmas is a blown, out of proportion, holiday, which is mostly inclusive of greedy children and pigheaded parents dishing out expensive, unnecessary gifts to each other as if it's deserved for the last 364 days of waiting. You ask most children what's significant about Christmas and they'll tell tales of jolly men in red suits, airborne deer and enslaved little people. Sure, a handful will feed you the jargon from the fictional novel The Bible, but majority holds firm that Santa will arrive.
Why the gift giving? Baby Jesus received some crappy metal for his birthday, why not give your children the same? You want them to be pure Christians and follow the ways, don't you? Why give them a Transformers toy or a Barbie? Those appear to be violent and sexual. I can fight with Transformers and remove the clothing from Barbie. It's blasphemy if I were a Christian. I would spend years rotting in Purgatory for those actions.
This year, give your children a rake, some frankincense and a bucket. While you're at it, tell them to quit driving laps around town burning precious fuels and oils that we may need down the road.
You know servo, normally I...
Back to page topYou know servo, normally I read messages communicated with that sort of tone and, in a way, disregard it (please take no offense to that...it's just that lots of the time people simply seem to be venting about an issue without a real point...you had one). But I have to say I agree 100000% with your points on the materialistic holiday that Christmas has become. I, for one, am sickened when I walk into stores and see the aisles and aisles of plastic toys and packaging that will be wrapped in yet more packaging only to be opened up on Christmas morning to be ignored by its recipient. Imagine all the extra trash entering the landfills just because of this holiday. Some might find it interesting (and hopefully motivational!) to know that although the U.S. only makes up 6% of the world's population, we generate nearly 40% of the world's trash. How sad. Just one more reason why it should be considered a resposibility to recycle. People should check out the documentary "Affluenza" that was on PBS years back, if you can find it...it talks all about how we are becoming such a materialistic culture.
I agree that few children acknowledge the real reason for celebrating. I doubt many would recall the story of Baby Jesus in a Manger if asked about the meaning of Christmas. And isn't greedy materialism contradictory to what Jesus lived for in the first place? It all seems so backwards...I don't even know how to feel about it anymore. I guess it's just up to each of us to make sure our children don't see it that way.

Back to page topYou two need to get a room, a bottle of 1965 Chateau Latour, 7lbs of chicken wings and a whole lot of baby powder. Get to it, chop-chop.
1965 Chateau Latour, btw, is an excellent choice if you're a wine drinker who appreciates the finer red variety. If it doesn't knock your socks off at $750 per bottle, the succulent sapidity ought tickle your tongue.
I bet you read that line...
Back to page topI bet you read that line directly out of "Wine Connoisseur". Besides. someone drinking a $750.00 bottle of wine would NOT be eating chicken wings! Caviar, maybe, but certainly not chicken wings.

Back to page topI tend to use both depending on the situation. 'Merry Christmas' is a more personal sentiment and normally shows someone as being a very warm and personable person. 'Happy Holidays' is generic and shows not real feeling.
