The beach and dogs

No votes yet

I find it interesting that i step on the beach sand with my dog on a leash for two minutes and am told no pets on the beach. I was dropping off my son and asked some family members if they could bring him home.
The next day i was at the beach and there were unleashed dogs on the beach without anyone saying or doing anything about it.

Firstly, which beach? If they're running free in Ranier, that's allowed, nobody's going to do much about that. If someone at Ranier beach told you to take your dog away, I would suggest growing a backbone and telling them off. But if that's not the case, then take it easy. If a lifeguard or city employee told you this at City Beach, then you'd probably have to obey.

That having been said, I must now ask, why did you need to bring your dog if you were just dropping your son off? Is the dog not safe in the car with all the potential thefts that could happen in such a rugged community?

Yeah they let the dogs run free in Ranier, although the beach rules specifically state that there are to be NO dogs on the City Beach area.

So, those of us who do not reside in Ranier are expected to put up with some fat black lab plowing over our kids and running like heck back and forth across the beach. I have witnessed dogs stealing the kids beach toys because they think they are play things for them, a dog crapping on the beach, and little ones getting sand thrown in their eyes while someone's "free" dog is allowed to run around in spite of City Beach rules.

I think the "dogs of Rainier" is a rather quaint part of that city's history - but I do not believe they belong on the beach - there is enough places in Ranier for the dogs to run on the sand, not City Beach.

At least Ranier has gotten it down to the dogs. Back in the day, I had a grandmother who used to come to town, check in at our house, and then head out to Ranier to run wild herself. I had an uncle who, after a lifetime of losing fingers in the mill, took his wild ways out to Ranier and had a tavern, so my grandmother had a place to sit. These days Ranier is an ice cream store, a restaurant on the corner, a realtor selling lake property, the Muni, and a few overweight labradors wheezing in the hot sun. As I skate through Ranier, I am less likely to be harrassed by any creature, human or animal, than anywhere I can think of.
Ranier seems almost domesticated. Tells me we aren't the frontier anymore.

I agree with Agent 47, WHICH BEACH?? Downtown Ranier "proper" has a little strip of sand they have always called
"the beach". Yeah right, the rich folks on "Stop Island" have bigger beaches than that!! Ranier has always had the "dog pack" running wild, and the leader of the pack, recently passed away. RIP!! So, I would guess it must have been at City Beach, and if the sign is still up there, then you must obey the law. It's about the same logic as saying, "I was only parking in the handicap spot, long enough to pick up my mail"!! Unless, your dog is a member of the Ranier Pack" then it must stay off the beach. Simple as that!! [unless you are special].....

Your kids are just sucking up to you for more money! hehe

But yeah, you get the point now, remove the leash and act casual.
