Hello Readers...
I need your help and I am looking for some information. My name is Dale Lalim and we live in Maynard, Minnesota. I was in the Army and stationed in Viet Nam from 1970 - 1971 with a buddy of mine from International Falls area. I was Spec 4 with the 45 Engineering Battlion. We spent many good hours together during this tour. He was on his second tour and was married as was I. Unfortunately I cannot remember his name and he died in action and I want to pay my respects to him as we visit the Wall in Washington this Fall. I also have many pictures I would like to share with his family so I hope some one in your area can help me out. If you know of this Veteran can you please write me at Dale Lalim, PO Box 73 Maynard, Minnesota 56260 or email us at dllalim@hcinet.net Thank You Dale Lalim

Back to page topYou realize that it's been over 40 years since some of those brave men died, yet you read their names and it seems like yesterday. Time does fly doesn't it?
Dale Lalim is looking...
Back to page topDale Lalim is looking specifically for someone who died in his time 1970-71 in VN; does anybody have the dates of these deaths? Are they on the new plaques that have caused such a furor in the analog journal? I bet Terry Randolph can come up those dates. Anyone else?
You are correct about the names and that fact that as we hit our 60's, these guys are still in our memories. I work with Earl Deneen's niece and told her about her uncle Earl, his bout with rheumatic fever in 6th grade, the last time he was in the Falls. Of the five from the class of 65, there's not a guy in the group I wouldn't love talking with again.
There is an author named Tim O'Brien who wrote a book of short stories called The Things They Carried. I just reread it and enjoyed his story about coming up to the border with the idea of slipping over into Canada. [He didn't] Great stories, even for those of us who read about it in the newspaper.

Back to page topI agree TJ about O'Brien's compilations, I do believe I read them in Playboy. This particular magazine did have good articles back when we were young.I am sure you did not read it in Playboy, you truly are better read than me. In this story the character realized that the river was too cold and he realized that the country he wanted to leave was not as cold as he had thought. At least that is what I remember what I perceived from this excellent story. No need to correct me if I am wrong. Again, we all wish you and family well. Chopper
