Jimmy, what about Hibbing's

Jimmy, what about Hibbing's own Kevin McHale? I am not much of a basketball guy, but you have to admit he is one of if not the greatest basketball player from from the state. 1976 Minnesota Mr Basketball, Over 17,000 points, seven-time All-Star, two-time winner of the NBA's sixth man award, not to mention three Championships with the Celtics. His high school career was before my time, but his pro career is not. I know he does not make many lists because of his mis-management of the Timber Wolves, but he is still home-grown and definitely on my list. My only other honorable mention would be Dave Spehar's three hat trick performance in the 1995 AA boy's hockey tournament.

Why don't you start a local

Why don't you start a local top ten list of sports icons (possibly by decade) so all age groups can make a valid contribution. Once you develop a list...have a final vote to honor these individuals.

Roughly nine months ago — not the greatest way for a 27-year-old single male to start a column, but stick with me — a friend of mine and I bellied up to a local establishment and hashed out a top 10 list that took hours to create. The best part of it wasn’t the final product, however, but rather the back and forth between the two of us as we resurrected a ton of names from the Minnesota sports scene.

So, who are your 10 favorite Minnesota sports icons?

The question alone brings about concentrated looks, and the only limitations are as follows:
