Anton,

Excellent tribute to your Father on his 93rd birthday. Even better than the one you wrote last year. I hope he has many, many more birthdays! I think your article is a wonderful testament to the love you have for your Father. I think you speak for hundreds or thousands of Falls area residents. I think Kay hit the nail on the head, when she implied that he is the epitome of what the early Falls residents were all about. You and your Father have a great day!! Thanks

PS- does he ship paddles to S.C.??

Your dad has always been a fantastic person. You write so well have you ever thought of writing a book about his life. I would find it very interesting and I am sure others would also. He is what Kabetogama used to be all about. It has changed so much that sometimes it doesnt seem like the same place it once was. He is the real thing. Happy Birthday LeVerne!!

Well Dads 93rd birthday is

Well Dads 93rd birthday is today. Things this last year seem to be about the same as always, for dad. He guided on Kab, Namakin and Rainy, as usual, but not as much as previous years. I suppose everybody would cutback a little at his age. Gas and oil prices had some effect on dad's guiding also. The cold weather never allowed him to cut back on cutting firewood this last winter however. About six cords as far as I can figure it as I helped him split some. I guess no matter how old you are you still get cold cold at night if you don't have firewood so some jobs just have to be done. I missed the mark on sandpaper last year as dad made about 70 paddles in stead of the 3 dozen he thought he would make. He figures it pays the taxes and food. His garden was better then mine last summer but , of course, I am still learning. He trapped last fall also, I know, as he gave me my old job back carrying the backpack and carrying the beaver out of the woods. I only went to the house a few times during trapping season as my back gets sore at my 61 years of age. Dads back has had 32 extra years to get stronger so he carried most of the mink, otter and beaver out. Dad cut most of the firewood also, come to think of it. I did get dad more sandpaper this year. I bought it by the box this year as the paddle business seems to be getting stronger. If your out of work, don't ask dad for a job as he pretty much does things by himself, those that know him will attest to that. Even at 93, he doesn't need much help at anything. A local lady came to check on him and mom and noticed a ladder against the house. He had been up on the roof cleaning creosote out but she only noticed one set of footprints. She figured he must have fallen down the chimney. It wasn't so! The lake will be out soon so you'll be able to catch some walleye. I am sure the walleye are keeping a wary eye on you, for sure. I wonder how many you have caught in these last 93 years? I have been wondering about a number of things lately. Like how many cords of wood have you cut and how many hundreds or thousands of mink and beaver have you trapped in these 93 years? Well I guess it was enough to buy cloths and food for five of us kids and mom. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LeVerne Oveson, I wish you many more.

Well dad turned 92 years old today. I had asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he thought about it for awhile and answered matter of factly, "get me some sandpaper, I am out of sand paper".
