What is the little old

What is the little old travel trailer doing parked behind city drug. It looks like someone is living in the alley. I drove around tonight looking at buildings and there is an apartment building on 6th st and I think 8th ave that looks like it should be closed up. Trashed and a real eyesore. People were throwing garbage out of the 2nd story window on the sidewalk. Thats what gives landlords a bad name.

Ever since I found out that

Ever since I found out that it's good for old guys to walk around [old women go to Curves, whatever that is], I've enjoyed walking the streets of International Falls for an hour or so a day. A regular street walker, you might say. What kay says about blight is absolutely true: especially garages. BUT the number one butt-ugly thing and the source of immeasurable blight in my old home town is the mill siding that still festoons so many houses and garages. Now that smoking is illegal, it's time to make mill siding illegal too. You can usually identify it by the broken corners, the brown paint, and the splitting and surface rot. Not the best product ever created. When I stripped it off my cabin five years ago, I discovered how nice the stuff burned. That's illegal too but I would like the town fathers and mothers to consider suspending the no-burn rules if the burner can prove it is vintage mill siding being burnt. Some would likely try to extend the permission to burn some of that equally ugly green asphalt siding so popular on houses that haven't taken a bath since 1952 but that stuff definitely doesn't burn clean. With $2,500 worth of cedar siding, some of those $15,000 houses could fetch at least $18,000. Just a suggestion.

Thanks! You are right about the walleye from cold water. I've had walleye caught outside Knoxville, Tenn, and it's not as good. Where can someone get a tender mouse?? Later.

save a few cold ones for me too. Walleye!! I prefer walleye caught in cold water the meat is more firm and seems to have a better flavor.

Remember to give the old cat a tender mouse..........Italian Proverb

Someone let the cat out of the bag. ROJ knows the posse is waiting on him. He has found another way in. The only two friends he has are running an under ground railroad to get him through.

Welcome to I-Falls. As a

Welcome to I-Falls. As a transplant, I can tell you that this area will be exactly what you make of it. There are clicks, just like in any small town. Even my small home-town had them, only since I was a native, I just didn't see it, not until years later.
The Falls has a lot to offer, good people. But I do miss some of the amenities of a large city...late night restaurants, 24 hr. grocery shopping, Target, Kohls, etc. But I have adjusted.
Like you will be, I am close to family, and that is a joy (most times!)
Do not worry about the winters. People up here know how to drive on ice and snow, and for the out doorsy type, there are lots of things to do what with snowmobile trails, X-Country skiing, hockey games, ice fishing. Now that is fun even for the indoorsy types like me. The fish houses up here are almost like miniature homes...kitchen stuff, bunks, etc. And you can marvel at the fact that you are sitting on top of a lake, 20 below, toasty warm, in your shirtsleeves and fishing!
For people like me, winter is a good time to read, watch movies, blog, etc. And for some, it is fun to get away for a weekend, maybe to one of the casinos not too far from here, or a 3 hour trip to Duluth for some city fun.
Anyway, it is kind of like the words to an old, old song: "You've got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, and don't mess with Mr. Inbetween." And as you can tell from our fellow bloggers, we have all of those. LOL
Hey, enjoy your new life here!

Don't tell me I'll have to go over to Ft Francis and get some coffee from Starbucks!! The times must be getting rough in the Falls, if they have to start watering down their coffee! I will give a coffee report on here when I return from my fishing trip.

Side comment, Bring your own coffee. We were there in july and the coffee around town was so weak it look like clear tea. Ether that or tell the mill to start polluting the h2o again.

Half gutted houses. Whats

Half gutted houses. Whats up with the buildings on 6th and 7th streets that are half gutted out and then vacated. They look worse than the cars that have been towed away because they were not licensed. As I have been driving around town I have noticed alot of really bad garages that look like they are about to cave in. This could become a real fire waiting to happen. Some look like kids are using them for hangouts. Boy could this be a diaster if a fire were to start. The gutted houses and vacated garages are not really blight but a much more dangerous problem.

Compliments to Mr Trask and the city for the painting on the building at the corner of 3rd & 3rd. It looks like you could take a stroll down the street into any of those stores.
