If you ask me I would go with Merry Christmas, I find it most appropriate but I think we are missing the point here. The point is that Christmas is a time for joy and for sharing good thought and feelings. We should cherish that and learn to love more. I am specially impressed with the beauty of Christmas itms: decorations, ornaments, trees, gifts, everything, they make me fee joyful.

Are you really asking why someone wants to wish you Happy Holidays? The thing that makes the day special is that it only comes once a year, when family plans to get together and enjoy each other's company. This, for some, is the only time of year that they can get together, with our busy lives.
Yes, it is about the children and giving them memories to cherish, and no it doesn't have to end at that date, but with work, school, and bringing up your own family, when some of us live thousands of miles away, showering them with memories and gifts during a traditional gathering is not something to be put down by you or anyone else for that matter. You can do as you please, but don't try to be the grinch and steel the tradition and elements of Christmas (a time to be thankful and happy) away from anyone.

So servo, I suggest you stop trying to be original because you are just being rude.

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets are hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.

You make some good points, Fallsy. I concur that students should be made aware of other religions beliefs and traditions and should learn to respect those beliefs. However, I think it is very important that these same students get a very firm and strong belief in the religion they are raised in, and in this area of St Cloud it seems pretty much a Catholic town...just my impression. I was raised Catholic, but several years ago I felt a void in the Catholic doctrine, so I have been attending services at several different churches to see what fits.
There is great power in prayer, as the Bible says the "prayers of the righteous availath much".
Well I am dead beat tired and have to catch some rack time. Good posts Fallsy!

Well said six-shooter, I appreciate you recognizing those troops who will be 6-7000 miles from home and the loneliness and heartache they will experience during their deployment. Also,Often I have commented on the anger and disgust I feel when illegal aliens demand we learn their language! How arrogant is that? It goes without saying that the onus is on them to learn English as that is the legally recognized language in the US. Americans have many times demonstrated their compassion for the less fortunate, and I hope that continues for a very long time...as John Kennedy said "America is a great country because its a good country, and when we stop being good, we stop being great" a very well put statement.

Now that is a very correct observation for the most part, but I won't get nit-picky, Tom. God forbid the US ever ends up with a "state sanctioned religion" as then we know the US is in deep yogurt! One of the most misconstrued statements that is used all the time but entirely out of context is "separation of church and state", which means the federal government shall not dictate to the people what religions they can and cannot partake in. It seems you have a fairly good grasp of American History and I totally respect that. And its one of my main area of study. Paradox, one thing I did not mention, I do believe you should be shown gratitude for you service to your country. I know Marines are a tough bunch--I know I probably could not have made it through Marine Boot Camp. Whether or not we agree or disagree on points, one thing cannot be changed: you served your country and for that this country is in your debt.

If you go back to my posts you will see that #1 I did not say you could not criticize history, I stated you could not change it. #2 Your Higher Power did not give you the "right" to choose, the United States Congress did. #3 I did not suggest you leave this great country, I merely suggested you visit some countries that are not free, where people fear for their lives all of the time, etc etc. #4 And no where did I state you could not live where you wanted to. I may be guilty of promoting the military and patriotism, but from my view point and the hatred of the military by the liberal Demoncrats, I think the military could use some pats on the back and "overzealous" promotion. I think you misinterpret my thoughts, I'm all against forced religion, "ever since my grade school Principle, forced us to go to churches and study religion, or we would be punished".
