Hey Black Bay, Merry Christmas and happy Uke day too. That Merry Christmas is for everybody. Other than a few problems, what about this town is not to love. It's home, that is enough for me.

After letting the dogs out

After letting the dogs out for about the fifth and hopefully the last time tonight I could feel the stillness and calmness of the night. The sky looks like black velvet with out a star to be seen. I just couldn't believe how quiet it was. How many people can say that where they live? Not so much as a sound of a car. Because of my grandparents chosing this area to move to and raise their family have I been given the opportunity to do the same, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. This truely is God's country and I am very thankful to be part of it. With that I wish a very Merry Christmas to you and all your loved ones and a Happy Healthy New Year. Going back outside to go for a walk, too nice out to pass up the chance on a December nite.

I love this town because it's home. Even though I haven't lived in town for quite a while I always get that at home feel when I roll in.

Remember "Field of Dreams"?

Remember "Field of Dreams"? Where the sky is described as being "so blue as to hurt your eyes..."? I have been to many places on this earth, including over 30 of our beautiful states and several other countries; nowhere have I seen skies as blue as those reflected off Rainy Lake, skies so blue, that while gazing at the water you think your going to fall into the sky. Drifting in a boat with the motor off, the warmth of the breeze lulling you almost to sleep but for the beauty of Dryweed Island or Kempton Channel, Bushyhead Island or Brule Narrows (my spell-checker is choking on all these names!) Cranberry Bay, Deer Island, the international falls by Kettle Falls Hotel, Franks Bay, Three Sisters Island, Devils Cascade (so what if its in Canada) :-) ...and thats just a tiny segment of the lakes area. Borderland has so much to offer...we often see what we normally see on a average day, the same people, same old streets (paved with gold--its true), some of the same old buildings that have held so many businesses I've lost track, but we often miss the unbeatable wonder of living here
International Falls is just another little town among tens of thousands of little towns in the United States. But the Falls is special because its our home town, and many of us cherish the memories of yesterday as much as current day experiences, as the Falls has much to offer. It has difficulties, sure, but what town does not? International Falls has a spot in the heart of its residents, past residents, and the many folks who come to the area to vacation. We hold it in our hearts when we leave, and need to hold it even closer when we abide here. Its home, as humble as it is, its home.

One nation under God

There are so many things to

There are so many things to mention here as to why I love this town. Over a year ago, I came "home" to interview for a job. I was offered that job and went back to where I was living at the time and had to tell my wife that we were moving.
She for lack of a better way of putting it, was not happy. We were living in Bemidji and she was afraid that she would miss the amenities. We decided that I would move and she would stay behind to continue her schooling.
Well, a year later, she goes to school online and lives right here with me, I got to watch her see the Thanksgiving parade for the first time, experience Blast on the Border (Ice Box Days), ice fish and snowmobile all over the lake, then came spring where we spent a lot of time on the River pulling up walleyes and sturgeon.
You can see where this is going. The ice melted and I got to show her Rainy for the first time and to make a long story short, she is in love with this place just like I am and it is now home.
I have said it before and I will say it again, you do not realize how much you can miss home until you leave and come back. I cannot wait to be the father of fourth generation in my family born in the Falls and the watch a fifth generation member of my family attend school in the Falls. My roots are deep and I intend to lay them deeper.

Anton, that is very nice, Especially about the family. But one thing I bet you don't know is that I am a part of that family......

not to be strange or anything, that is not my objective. I only think it is time to admit my alias.

I chose this place as my

I chose this place as my home town. All the amenities are here - a great public library, a community college, no freeway traffic, folks that say hello to you everywhere you go.
I bought a house 20 years ago, married a local, had kids.

I found peace of mind here. I love that there is room to breathe here. And now, I read signs like the memorial to the Garden Club guys and I remember them and can figure out who their kids are. And it is God's country here - the cathedral in the woods and lakes and that deep blue sky of winter. And, in due time, I too will be buried here. Like a local.

I love this town because I

I love this town because I was born and raised
here. Every bone I have broken, was broke here, fixed up here by a local doctor in the local hospital. In fact every bone I have broken was because of someone else that also lives here still and they still are my friends. I know every tree, street, home and every store past and present (not quite true) all as a memory of something in the past. Its sorta like one big large inter connected family that sometimes gets along and sometimes does not. For those I might be mad at, I still would help if they needed help as they are still my friends even if I am mad. One thing I like the most, is the feeling of security I get knowing, if something bad happened, I could still live here well. If the power, gas and water stop flowing, if the trucks that bring us food stopped coming to town, I could still live well. I love this town so much I want it to be doing well for everybody that lives here. I want everybody every where, to know how good it is to live in such a wonderful place. Most of all I love this town because its home and its been our families home for a hundred years. Thats a lot of memories!!
