At the conclusion of the South Carolina Democratic Debate, (I wonder who lives in S.C.!) it is evident that this side of the aisle is boiling down to either a woman or a black man and just for myself, I am not that happy about it. Oh I like to rant and rave about change and the like, but what the country really needs is someone who can make a difference, in the ways that both the Washington establishment and the regular public, like you and me, can agree on. Moreover, it seems that we deserve better and to that end, I think that two candidates come forward, and I think they are John Edwards and John McCain. Personally, I would love to see them on the same ticket for President and VP. Edwards is endorsed by many labor unions, including my own, and focuses on the real issues unlike Hillary and Obama who are the media darlings. McCain is a true American hero and it may be at this time in our history that a real hero is what we need to solve the problems we face and provide salve to the wounds of the past eight years. I believe that most of America is tired of the lobbyist driven, only for me mind set of Washington and they want their government to help them toward a better, safer life not one that is filled with potholes and problems.

I am quite glad that John McCain, a real American hero in every sense of the word, is making progress with his presidential campaign. I have read his books and he is a great writer, Senator and a honest speaking candidate. Of all of the GOPers, I would be tempted to vote for him. I do not have as much faith in Giuliani, Paul, Romney or Huckabee. My Democratic background stems from a long line of blue collar workers in my family. I am open to listen to both sides and I do agree with quite a few conservative ideas. Thanks for the replies, guys, and have a great day!

As noted on MSNBC, this is the first election for POTUS since 1952 without a current president or vice president that is running for the top spot. To have Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton able to run for this office shows the progression of two classes of citizens that were heretofore unable to vote or be adequately represented through much of the history in the U. S. The rest of the world must be absolute giddy to know that we have some tolerance at last for ALL of our people. People that have watched politics for a living, and even some casual observers have credited Obama with his ability to get his message across, much like the references to Martin Luther King, Jr. in almost a spiritual way. That is the greatest thing about the American political process. Anyone can, with hard work and determination, get involved in the process for making America better. You may not like Hillary for a variety of reasons, but this is a resolute woman with a lifetime of political experience dating back to her days in college. She has shown herself capable of doing many good things for this country and has had first hand views of the rest of the world after spending eight years as First Lady. She is in this case, uniquely qualified to be President. It is a sad day in our country when someone is labeled negatively because of someone else's behavior. Or is marginalized because of their color or sexual orientation. Or the church they attend, the religion they follow. Let us all rise above the fray and add educated, reasoned opinions about all of the Presidential candidates and leave the innuedo and smears to the wayside.

How dare you call me a "redneck"! LOL.... I'm all for a "blaaaack" running for POTUS, if he or she is qualified. And guess what? The only ones who I think ARE, don't want the job!! Makes them smart in my book. Colin Powel for one comes to mind. He would be a GREAT President, but he "doesn't want the job". Can anyone tell me why? He is fully qualified and could win, and I would vote for him. J.C. Watts the former Congressman from Oklahoma, he is good, but doesn't want the job. Elisbeth Dole from North Carolina is a good choice for a Feeeeeemale President, but she doesn't want the job. And Norpole is right, the FMLA is a good thing, and overall Clinton was a VERY good President, but he was and still is a sexual predator with a strong addiction!! Can you say neuter Hillera?? Three quick points.
1. I agree that The Family Medical Leave Act is a good thing.

2. "Last week the Congressional Budget Office joined the IRS in releasing tax numbers for 2005, and part of the news is that the richest 1% paid about 39% of all income taxes that year. The richest 5% paid a tad less than 60%, and the richest 10% paid 70%. These tax shares are all up substantially since 1990, and even somewhat since 2000."
It seems to me that would leave the middle class paying about 30% of all taxes paid.

While I would readily admit that I might feel uncomfortable attending a service here (ok, I'm uncomfortable at most church services...but I am referring here to the fact that I do tend to feel like an outsider when showing up at a predominantly "black" function as one of the only or few whites...but that's more out of the feeling that I'm ogling or patronizing...), it didn't seem scary in any way. I have to agree with the article...being pro-black doesn't mean being anti-white (it certainly could, mind you, but then the church website would look more like a reverse KKK poster). Being committed to Africa doesn't mean being uncommitted to America...I think we can all safely agree that Africa, pretty much as a whole, has a LOT of problems these days (and for quite some time, in fact)...problems we in America can't even begin to imagine. It seems pretty Christian, to me, to devote time, energy and faith to a continent that has so many problems. Particularly, with this particular church, when you're talking about a group of people whose ancestors are probably mostly FROM said continent.

Truth be told, though...I'm more interested in what schools a candidate attended than what church they attend. But that's just me.

Well, to start off, RJ 1127, the Democrats, with the profound leadership of William Jefferson Clinton, passed the law to create Family Medical Leave Act, to allow people to take care of themselves or their family and it has been very beneficial for me and my family. Republicans want you to work until you die so you don't have to collect your pension or SS and then they can save that money to share amongst each other on some shady backroom deals. The middle class pays the freight for this country and if you dispute that, then perhaps you should get a job, look at your paycheck and realize the screwing we are getting by big business (aka Republicans). Maybe Hillary or Barack can provide some incentive for the middle class again unlike the war criminals Bush and Cheney.
