Coming into this a bit after

Coming into this a bit after the fact gave me the benefit of being able to read all of the posts. There have been some here that seem to lack feeling or compassion and I feel sorry for those who contribute those posts.
Mostly, I feel for the boy who has lost his best friend and pray another dog will be provided soon. I tend to believe (as a ex-cop) all of our local law enforcement will take note of this situation and will make sure they handle similar situations better (if the two involved were actually in error--none of us were there so actually don't really know what happened and why). I believe its important to practice compassion as much as possible as the world we live in is increasingly harsh and unforgiving.
And as we live in a small isolated community I think we need to pause in making judgement on others without knowing all the facts, and then consider the situation as if we were the one under scrutiny and treat others as we desire to be treated.
I believe people become cops, fire fighters, EMT'S, etc. because they sincerely want to help others, and these officers should be given the benefit of the doubt until ALL off the FACTS are known.
My deepest sympathies to the family that lost their friend and pet. I have lost two dogs to disease recently and another is currently dying of cancer, so I know the depth of their loss.
I really hope this will be a learning experience for everyone, and if wrong has been committed, it will be handled fairly and with compassion.

One nation under God

johnnyhotter--not being a

johnnyhotter--not being a vet or breeder I only can go by my life's experiences and the advice of our family vet. I know that a female dog can come in heat from 5 months and up depending on the breed and thereafter every 6 mo. I just seem to notice this time of year and into spring (also fall) that you see more dogs running in packs or seem to be lost. I just have always had my animals gelded, spayed or neutered so my knowledge is limited. P.S. on the advisement of our vet I don't feed our dogs bones or table scraps. Just thought I would throw that into the mix. It might save a animals life.

Six-Shooter please explain

Six-Shooter please explain why this would be the time of year a dog would go into heat? Don't dogs go into heat twice a year and doesn't it depend on when the dog was born to determine when their first heat cycle is and everyone there after? I didn't think a dog was like a deer and came into heat a specific time of year......I'm not trying to start an argument or think your wrong just curious how thier cycle works.

This is the time of year

This is the time of year when the female dog comes into heat. If the animal is not spayed or neuter the male and female go to great lengths to meet up so to speak. I don't know if this family pet was or not. Dogs if not spayed or neutered are open to injuries or death. From being hit by cars, fight wounds and even being shot. I guess it is up to the the individual as to where their love of the pet and responsibility is.

I think the main thing now

I think the main thing now is to get this little boy another special dog. I don't know how hard it is to get this type of trained dog but if anyone knows of one maybe they could give the information. I am sure these folks will take extra care to not let the dog loose.

We just want to make sure

We just want to make sure that what the two officers did won't happen again to another family. Plus the dog was on its tie out, but got loose. He wasn't loose for very long. Lets just let the matter rest. We can all agree to disagree. Some of us agree more than disagree.

Reprimands are public record

Reprimands are public record and there has been none yet or even a filing of a complaint...Why is that? If your friend has such a beef, why not file a complaint with the state and County?

We talked to Hasbargen when

We talked to Hasbargen when we brought the dog's body in to be cermated him and he said he never received and emergency phone call, and with the caller ID era there was nothing on the caller ID. We called Himes too and they didn't get a emergency call eaither. I think these two offices are just covering their butts. I also saw the dog and there was no blood at his mouth. We looked him over. I think those officer just got into trouble and now just trying to cover their butts with both hands. Thanks now I know how are officers are like. So Johnnyhotter so read all the blogs before you look like an idoit. You mentioned things that I never said.

rlsummer...obviously your the one that can't read....They did contact the vets and they were unavailable(easily obtained information). And secondly they do NOT need to contact the Humane Society first. That is also misinformation. And I never said they DID go up to the police station. I said if they were really that concerned they SHOULD HAVE instead of just calling. Instead of relying on misinformation maybe you should get both sides of the story before trying to run people through the mud.

THEY DIDN'T CONTACT THE VET. BECAUSE THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO CONTACT THE HUMANE SOCIETY FIRST. THEY DIDN'T DO THAT. DUH!! IF YOU READ OR YOU CAN'T READ VERY WELL. I NEVER EVER SAID THEY WENT UP THERE. THEY CALLED!!! BOTH IFALLS POLICE AND THE STATE TROOPER. AND NO ONE HAD INFORMATION. NOW READ AND LET IT PROCESS BEFORE YOU LOOK LIKE A DUMB**S!!

rlsummer heard from a friend

rlsummer heard from a friend who heard it on the scanner from an officer that is not a vet that it was only a broken leg....this is alot of heresy.....again before you go spouting off at the mouth find out the real story. Who diagnosed it as exposure? Was the Sheriff truck really parked outside? What vet were they suppose to bring it to if neither vet was available. If the owners were so concerned why did they just call the Sheriiffs office instead of going there in person and raising a stink(5 miles to far to drive?). How many other times had this dog been out running? (be honest!!) How long had it been running? (since it was miles from home) The truth to All these questions could easily be found out if you wanted to contact the sheriifs department instead of going on a personal rampage.

Servo, what a wonderful

Servo, what a wonderful world you live in! The original blogger, rlsummer said the dog only had a broken leg. This was told to her by her friend who owned the animal and made the calls to the authorities and got the run around until the next morning. This is more than a case of a dead dog, it is the lack of common sense, following protocol and caring for a stricken animal. Yes, I was watching a stupid show but that has nothing to do with the story and it only shows the level of your intelligence to make fun of people who just tried to relate what they saw, albeit in the dark, to a dog that was lost. I was being sarcastic not caustic as you were in your comments about the calling of 911 and all. This poor animal was an autistic boy's best friend. How does he get over that? Are you familiar with autism and the difficulty that this family faces on a daily basis? This dog was a gift from heaven to allow this person to have a friend who understood him in ways a human could never do. I only hope that you will be there to help donate to replace this special animal that apparently died for no reason at all.

Heartless State Troop

I cannot believe how cruel and heartless our state trooper and sheirff are towards other peoples pets. And my tax money is paying for them. Ok the reason why is that a friend of mine's dog had gotten away from them last night, and while they were looking for their dog, it came across the scranner that a dog had gotten hit, but only had a broken leg. My friends called the police department, but they said they have no record and that they would have to call the state trooper since it was out of city limits.
