City Beach officially opened Monday, June 2. The hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a life guard on duty from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those hours are for weekdays and weekends, according to city officials.

Sounds like the city beach

Sounds like the city beach plan is going in the right direction. I don't see how it can go wrong. Alot of memories spending the summers there. We rode bike, took the bus. When older we drove when we could. It was the stomping grounds for the summer crowd. Hope all make use of it as much as they can.

LOL, thanks Roj! :p

LOL, thanks Roj! :p Hopefully, it opens sooner than that! It would be nice for the kids to be able to go play in the sand and walk at the water's edge. But then again, I go and watch my kids - I don't send them to go by themselves and trust that the lifeguard will watch them as close as I do.

There should be an age limit on the bus service. Last year there were children as young as 3 or 4 coming to the beach with an older sibling and running around unattended. I think the city is asking for trouble by not putting an age limit on the bus service - but that's just a mom of four's opinion. Eh! What do I know!?!

So, when does City Beach "officially" open for the summer? We went by there this weekend and it was still closed. Is June 16th the first day it's open?

After City Beach was rededicated last summer following major renovations, a community task force went another step this season to reclaim the area as a center of youth and family summer activity.
The problem, they said, is vandalism and after hours partying.
Years ago the beach was a center of summer activity and has since “lost its luster,” according to International Falls City Councilor Gayle Rognerud, a City Beach Task Force member.
City Beach is located on Rainy Lake, three miles east of the Falls and past Ranier on County Road 20.
