"Floating Islands" are the next real concern for those of you that have never seen such things. Yes they are real!! When the water levels rise, those areas of cat tail bog which we normally do not pay much attention to, except for duck hunting season, will rise so high that they will break loose and the wind will carry them to yuour location and try to make a new bog location. If your dock or shore is in there path, it will be your shore that is the new bog area when the water goes down and no dock or breakwater will withstand a 100 ton floating mass of cat tails and sod that slams into it.

Those folks east of Tom Cod Bay on Kabetogama should be on the look out for floating bogs (all property on Kab is east of Tom Cod) and have an emergency call system in place to get as many boats at the bog location as soon as possible to push it in another direction that won't cause any damage. Jackfish, Black Bay, Tillson and Cranberry all have good bogs that can break loose also. Also be aware that a good size cat tail island can float in from the Canadian side also. You "won't" move the thing after its piled itself up on your shoreline or dock, thats for sure. Just a thought!! What do I know, we have only lived here for a hundred years and I can't even spell St Paal or gobernmnt or edumacascion.

With lake levels exceeding flood stage early this week, and more rain predicted to be on the way, Rainy Lake resort owners are worried that the inconvenience of submerged docks could become a real problem as levels creep up over the shoreline.
