Hey Ziggy, how about we

Hey Ziggy, how about we rescind your right to free speech? Would you stand for that? Just because the Bar association is made up of attorneys and judges doesn't mean they will make the "best or most appropriate" choices either. I like the current system where the Judges are answerable to the voter, that way we lessen the probability of having activist judges telling us what the constitution means not what it really says.

Kay, perhaps the apartment

Kay, perhaps the apartment will become part of Kootasca's programs, if so I for one would support thier action under those circumstances. Further do you have information re Mr. Griffith's personal finances that would show that the resources given by Kootasca are being unwisely allocated? You present great inuendo but to make a proper decision the facts you claim to know or posses should be presented, and corroborated. Otherwise to me it's the same as a rumor, and should be treated as such. In any case I don't believe that the fact the Mr. Griffith got a forgiveable loan from the city, or from Kootasca is anybody's business but thiers. And has Mr. Griffith defaulted on any of his financial commitments? I don't see this the same as lending to someone who can't possibly repay the loan they take out.

lesleyk, Dave 68 is right in

lesleyk, Dave 68 is right in that we do allow people to write letters in favor of a candidate. We do try to limit the number of "canned" letters or letter writing campaigns.
No, we do not allow candidates to write letters during the campaign season, for the most part. Candidates have other venues to get their information to voters.
We do allow candidates to respond to letters in which they are criticized.
This information was published in recent columns I have written, or call me at The Journal if you'd like more information

Enjoy your weekend! :)

lesleyk, The Journal like all newspapers allows letters to be written on behalf of candidates. To suggest that the paper would not allow you to write a letter (for what reason?) is simply an expression of your broad ignorance of the process and a cheap shot at the paper..

I think it is interesting that the candidates themselves can't write letters to the editor during the election season about local issues, yet they published this one.

So does that mean I can write a letter to the editor in regards to who I support for mayor and get it published? lol For some reason, I highly doubt it.

The Minnesota Bar

The Minnesota Bar Association is looking out for the best interests of the people of Minnesota. The average voter knows nothing about the credentials of the candidates and the risk of electing the wrong person would be disastrous.

I wonder whether the above mentioned candidate would be running for judge every election season if he had stronger practice.

I'm all for less government, but let's be practical when government can work on our behalf to make certain we do not make poor decisions.

The city council made a

The city council made a subordination agreement with the above mentioned person (Sept 3rd council minutes in the Daily Journal) for a loan to remodel his apartment above his business. I was interested in why they would do this so I called a few people and after getting the run around I did some research and found that part of the loan came from KOOTASCA in 2006. I just can't believe that an attorney would qualify for any programs that KOOTASCA would offer. It blows my mind that they would give a forgiveness and low interest loan to someone who is not needy and I can't believe he would ask for it to start with. Government at its best.

This is very well written,

This is very well written, but an absurd argument.

I don't know anyone who has said that him being a victim of torture “quality’s him for the presidency” and these possible “terrible side effects” don’t appear to have effected his ability to lead so far.

If a firemen suffers burn injuries while saving kids from a burning building, does that mean that he shouldn’t ever be considered for the job of fire chief, because he may develop “post-traumatic epilepsy” or “perversion of agency“ thus becoming a “ticking time bomb“.

On the contrary, how he handled himself while he was in captivity does show you the character of the man. McCain is an American hero (if you don‘t think so, I recommend that you learn more about him, maybe read his book). No, that doesn’t make him a great president but the traits that he has shown in the past are those of a good leader. Traits like loyalty, courage, unselfishness, integrity are those of great leaders. Obama has shown that he is a great speaker and a good Democrat. Never deviating from the party line. But that does not make him a leader of any sort.

Ms Remus brings up an

Ms Remus brings up an interesting point. Sen McCain had two choices as a Viet Nam Vet. He could heal from his war wounds and go on to serve his country with distinction, or he could be like the thousands of other Viet Nam Vets, and grow long hair, sit on the corner with their field jackets on, begging for money so they could sit in the Border Bar or the Ranier Muni. Read about Bill Clinton's rants and raves he had every other minute while President. The only reason he didn't push the nuclear button, was because his hands were preoccupied!! He had a "hair trigger" temper, but the Liberals thought is was a "cute attribute"! So if not McCain, then we are left with "The Chosen One", Mr Obama. Yes, Mr Obama, Commander In Chief. When confronted with a serious threat, he can turn for spiritual advice from his Minister, Rev Wright. Remember? "America's chickens coming home to roost" or "G*d Da*n America". What wonderful words of encouragement for our President to make major decisions upon! Or Mr Obama can turn to his right hand man (and friend), Mr William Ayers, the admitted bomber and terrorist, who said he was "at war with ALL rich people"!! So, in the end who do we want as Commander In Chief? A man from Chicago, who's only real job was as a community organizer (huh??), a State Senator, who voted "present" on ALL votes, so that we couldn't hold him accountable for his decision making on voting. But, wait, he became a US Senator and for the entire time he has held Office, his only job has been to run for President. Now, does all of this really make him qualified for the most important job in the USA? No, I think I will take my chances with a "crazy, lunatic, Viet Nam Vet" (McCain) any day of the week. By the way, I would think that with the value systems presently in place in the frozen wilderness of Northern Minnesota, I would think that most of you would be squarely behind McCains VP pick!! She sure seems like a "Northern Girl" success story to me.
