history would be better made

history would be better made if the people responsible for yard restoration would ever get off their sorry a$$es and restore people's yards!!! I'm sick and tired of looking at the 3 huges disgusting messes where I once had immaculate lawn, and then there is the never ending laundry to do because of the muddy mucky mess everywhere, which then when I try to do all that laundry, this "great" system fails, and I am told to stop doing my laundry for a few hours until someone can come out to take a look!!! This project is nothing to brag about, much less put in any history book!!! And it didn't matter if you wanted or needed central sewer or not, you were forced to have it and pay an arm and a leg for it...which is why Mark wanted it put in...would you pay $40,000 for a new vehicle but leave it sit at the dealers lot??? I THINK NOT!!!

As a Air Force vet, it is great to see some recognition of Veterans Day...many people I talked to during the day had no idea this was the day to honor those who have served this country, especially those who have served and paid the ultimate price for the country they love. Thanks to the city of International Falls and especially the FD for showing this recognition.

Just yesterday I climbed up the brand new dome on top of the Reichstag in Berlin and although our dome doesn't resemble the modernist dome Norman Foster added to the 19th Century building, it does look a lot like some of the courhouse domes in the German capital. In any case, it is a monument to a better time when builders were interested in issues beyond pure functionality. What are the ten best structures in International Falls and area? When were they built? My first list:
1. Courthouse 2. Catholic church 3. Backus 4. Previous Zion Lutheran 5. New Border Bank
6. Dahlberg "castle" 7. Ober's outbuildings 8. Smokey

I run out of steam at about eight -- need some nominations.

Just pulling y'all's chains!! That is a great picture. Thanks Joe Krause, and ALL the Journal staff for their fine pic's! I mentioned Arkansas, just in case Tammy had come out of the Ozark mountains for a pack of cigarettes and a twelve-pack! You're right on with Gov Huckabee. Even slick willie clinton, says he is the "dark horse" candidate to watch out for. Remember Bill Clinton was written off in 1992 and then made his comeback. Huckabee is kind of like me, "tells it like it is", and doesn't stick his finger in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing! My favorite bldg's in the Falls are the run down shacks that are being torn down. The Falls is looking better every day. Well done to the Falls leaders!!

Maybe Rome (St. Peters Square) Roj, but it doesn't look like a Russian or Ukrainian onion dome,like the churches over in Fort Frances or down by Littlefork. Wasn't the last Gov. from Arkansas a republican named Huckabee(sp). I would think about voting for him for president, a little religious right for me,(a preacher man he is, me think) but I hear he is a common sense kind of guy. Yes 65, we do have some nice buildings in this community.
