Her last name was left off

Her last name was left off her website as a 'Child Internet Safety' agreement her parents have with 'Kid Nashville' . I can see where it would be confusing, if you don't know the family. Thank you for clearing this up. The article was great otherwise! Thanks!

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information. We have corrected the online version of the story.
The information provided to us referred to the performer as Katie Ray and did not include the last name Murray. A check of her Web site also referes to her as Katie Ray, with no reference to Murray.

Unfortunately, this article

Unfortunately, this article has one small mistake. Katie Ray's family is not the 'Ray' Family...it is the 'Murray' Family. :) And it inadvertently left out that she is also the granddaughter of Jack Murray and Lolita Moone. Grandma Donna and Poppa Ray are important to her, but so are all her grandparents. :)

I hope everyone gets out

I hope everyone gets out this weekend and uses this craft show as their first stop on their holiday shopping outings. I went to the one last week in Littlefork and it was great. I feel so good about buying things for myself and for my home that are made locally. This weekend I hope to cross some people off my xmas shopping list while I'm there. I'd like to say GREAT JOB to all of the vendors I visited...you make wonderful products and you're so talented. Everyone on this website talks about supporting local businesses...well this is the number one way to keep your money circulating locally, since your money goes directly into the hands of our hard working and talented friends and neighbors who live right here and I'm sure, want to see this town grow and change for the better along with the rest of us. Happy thanksgiving!!!!

Who would an ordinary person call to volunteer labor or money to help support this wonderful carnival?

I'd love to help with something like a moonlight ski...

I think the fair was not

I think the fair was not good at all! There was hardly any rides for the little kids! NO FERRIS WHEEL!!! Come on people!! I know I won't go back. Yes, animals are nice, but rides are a lot more fun to kids. And the prices of bracelets!! Wow! Expensive! I don't want to be harsh, but it was no fun at all!! The fair used to be fun quite a few years ago, but since then, it has gone down hill!

Thanks for your special interest, Newshound.
Just to clarify, the mayor does not work in the same building as the news staff. Mayor Shawn Mason's work with BorderWaters is headquartered at her residence.

I agree that small

I agree that small newspapers are asked to do a lot with limited staff. But this isn't unique and the DJ newsroom has provided better coverage of the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run in the past when they had the same size staff and there were more Ice Box Days events to cover. Plus past staffs didn't have the advantage of computers or digital photography — both timesaving devices for newspaper production.
I assumed Mayor Shawn Mason was in the same building because she works for North Star Publishing's Border Waters production, but that may not be so. And perhaps city officials could have alerted the paper once they knew a story was coming out in the Star Tribune on Feb. 19 and in Colorado. It's not their duty, but it would have been nice.
My point is that the paper shouldn't make excuses for lack of coverage; it should seek ways to address shortfalls by either hiring stringers for special events or allocating its limited resources in different ways. As a veteran of the news biz, I know that can be challenging but it can be done.

Anyone with the name newshound would probably enjoy a printed version of The Daily Journal. There's a little more coverage - more pictures indeed. And...gosh, it just feels good to hold a newspaper in your hand when you're sitting at the Coffee Landing enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee. : )

Hi Newshound -

I agree with your analysis of the Blizzard Run coverage. Yes, it would have been great to have more coverage. Yes, it would have been nice if participants were interviewed about the name/date change. The answers could have been informative, valuable and perhaps even entertaining. But the journal was there...they did cover the race and some of the events...and I'm sure they are stretched pretty thin. No organization is perfect - even our beloved Daily Journal.

I love that the WoodSport Marathon got considerable ink in September...and especially since the race is in its infancy stage (kind of). Just think what this race will eventually do for this area when it really takes off. The more publicity - the better.

P.S. The mayor does not work in the same building as the news staff. You should check with her...but I believe that to be true. : )

I don't subscribe to the print edition, but if the online coverage is any indication, the Journal did a poor job reporting the race. Why weren't any of the racers or organizers of the event interviewed? It was especially disappointing because it would have been interesting to hear their comments about the change in the date of the race, traditionally held in January. Sheesh, even the WoodSport race in Ranier got more ink than the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run, which makes me question the paper's news judgment.

P.S. How did the Journal get scooped on the Fraser, Colo., story if local officials were notified on Friday about the trademark challenge — especially when the mayor works in the same building as the news staff?
