The Humane Society does good work with their volunteers.
I hope the County board will do everything in their power to make it possible to get an animal shelter.

This card is totally unnecessary if you shop at City Drug Store. They have an insurance price and a cash price for prescriptions and the cash price is usually lower than 20% off of the insurance price. Why use the card and send local money to an insurance benefit manager. Up to $5 goes to Caremark just for printing a card.

Do a little research and see how this works. Caremark would love it if you ordered all of your prescriptions online from them and by passed your local businesses.

Another business denied a zoning permit to do business in the county. This area is not a place for anyone to do business. I got mine so lets not worry about anybody else. What next for economic
development you preach it but don't back it up, never have never will.

As a widow of a vet, I strongly encourage all who can attend and support the endeavor of having any type of VA care here. It was very difficult on the pocketbook and time off work to go down to the cities for testing and medical care (and that was when gas was under $2/gal). Please encourage those who would benefit to attend and show support! I will be writing my county commissioner a letter on this issue.

As a person who works

As a person who works closely with this population, I have made some observations about the causes for some of this phenomenom:
First we have removed personal responsibility from the parents for thier poor choices, and have enabled them to continue in negative lifestyles that re-inforce the idea to their offspring that if they emulate the behavior they see around them they too will be rewarded for failing.
Secondly we talk a lot about the problems and spend a lot of money on studies of this situation, the only thing we can't seem to do is to think outside of the box, and create the much needed jobs. We look to outsiders to bring in business, but make it hard for companies to do business here by enforcing union shop policies. I am not against unions btw, but when they keep out much needed businesses, whose future are they interfering with?
Now I know that I'm simply doing what has already been done by making this post, but I have long ago left the business sector for my present avocation. I still know much about creating and running a business since I have had more than one successful business in the past. As I write this I can think of many types of industries that could be created right here with little investment capitol but those I have shared my ideas with simply do not seem interested in taking small time risks to create a better future.

Anton, before you dig in you might want to consider the taller sleeker version of the Canadian Lynx commonly referred to as the Minnesota Lynx which can be found prowling around the Twin Cities. LOL!

I say build a "double" 25 ft high fence between Canada and the U.S. and keep the Canadian Humans and Canadian Lynx on the north side!!!! I think the Republicans should adopt that plan on their platform, and they'll be sure to win in Nov. By the way, do the Canadian Lynx, speak English or French??

I noticed that the late Iva Weir has donated $1.8 million to the preservation of the Loon and Loon habitat in Minnesota. I would sure hate to think that the "Loon" was on the "menu" of the Canadian Lynx. These two programs would seem to be counter-productive to each other but what does a country boy know about the menu of the Canadian Lynx. I suppose I could try eating Lynx instead of venison, partridge and rabbit.

I think your correct shooter, leave nature to nature and we will both be better off.

Anton1965----I have to agree with you 100%. The rabbit and partridge have plenty of predators to keep an eye out for now. I have seen an increase in fox and eagles in our area. Hawks and owls are plentiful too. The eggs of the wild game birds are sought after by the skunk and ravens. Also if the spring is unusally cold and wet that also can wipe out the young. I think nature is doing just fine if left alone in many instances.

"If" you promote the introduction or habitat improvement of the canadian lynx, to our area, I would think that might just about mean the end of whatever snowshoe rabbits and partridge we have around here now. I guess its a decision of lynx that we can't hunt or trap or even want versus snowshoe rabbits and partridge which we don't seem to have many of now which many around here do like to hunt. We already have one major predator in the Fisher that will kill about anything that walks, flys or swims 5 times its size, so I don't figure we need any more predators like that around here to finish off the remaining rabbits, partridge and porcupine in limited quantity, that we do have. Lastly, I never ate any lynx but I figure they taste a lot like mink, fox or otter which I want to assure you taste a lot like I think thick battery acid must taste like. On the other hand, snowshoe rabbit and partridge taste a lot like chicken. I actually like chicken a lot.

It sounds like a wonderful and exciting program to bring in an exotic "new" species to our area but its like many wonderful and exciting things that the city kids want to do to "our" area. Sometimes the city kids with their "basket weaving" degrees just don't really understand "all" of the wonderful and exciting program they are proposing and we that call this place home then have to live with their errors.

As a mostly outsider, I am sitting this one out but will throw in an opinion about change. Although change is a good thing and someone like Anton might make an excellent Commissioner or Board Member, the thing that keeps most people from running is the absolutely mind-deadening nature of city and county government. [Been there; done that]. I have seen people run for school board or some council position on the basis of a single issue -- some may remember a member of the class of 65, a clergyman, won a seat on the school board a few years ago -- only to find that the day-to-day work of the board is low in stimulation but high in opportunity costs. For the most part, the long-time members of such boards are underappreciated and under-rewarded. So I suspect that those of us who are stimulated by dealing with this very interesting blog issue are very poor candidates to be meeting in November to consider permits and easements and the normal excitement of routine business. All except
Anton 65, of course.

Well you are correct,

Well you are correct, actually there were no changes made. This means to me that everybody thinks the city and county is doing a great job, nobody in the city or county cares one way or the other and does not want to get involved or everybody has finally reached the point where they don't think there is any use in trying. You know, kinda like you said, business as usual. Everybody has gotten to the point where they are only concerned about just their little castle and little world. Nobody cares that there are no playgrounds for the kids, now they want a "place" for the kids to "hang out" at 24/7. Nobody cares that only the weatlhy can afford sports for their kids or the girls don't count unless of course we start a "new" tax to do it without cutting something else thats really not needed. Nobody cares that the voices of kids playing outside are not heard anymore because, well, kids don't play outside anymore. Nobody cares "if" the areas law enforcement can "talk" to each other and nobody even knows if they can or can't, that is until they respond to a Thursday school incident meeting and the question is brought up. Like I said twice before, does anybody at all care if we can respond to a hasmat on Hwy 53 with a wind from the south, a wind from the north??? How about a hasmat at the lift bridge and a wind from the east or north!! I voted in the last election also, my folks did not win either, but thats okay, my guys are going to win the next time even if you don't care. I mean, jeez, even McDonalds has a play ground for the kids.

One question that has not

One question that has not been brought up yet. Who is to maintain the "new" mile of 332 from the burner road to the place where the "county" wants to make the extension to 2nd bridge? This "wasted" road is not connecting state road to state road but rather is proposed to connect state road to "private" road and that is not eligable for state aid. The city does not have to maintain it, OR is this mile also to be "given" to the company? You know, kay is right, it could have been settled with a stop light and it still can be settled with a stop light.

The Falls needs "Anton

The Falls needs "Anton Obama" to run for Mayor, and bring CHAAAAAAAAANGE to the Falls!! So, can anyone "who cares" point to a specific point in time (ie- 1970 or so) that the Falls started the downward spiral?? I've seen some finger pointing lately at people who currently are in Elected positions, but how long have they been around, or has this "cancer" that is killing this great town, been allowed to grow for over four decades? Keep up the great work, and I may get my waterfront property, "sooner", rather than later!!!! I'm sure this entry will get "yanked", but maybe a few will read it before then.

sker---- the reason for no

sker---- the reason for no change is because of the same attitude you just stated-Ho Hum. I think there are 3 age groups in IF for voting. The older retired generation that just doesn't care because they have been thro this so many times that it is Ho- Hum to them or else they are snow birds and aren't here enough to really know what is going on and maybe they just don't care. Then there is the middle age group. Now this age group I really can't figure out because they are the strongest age to demand a change. Maybe they're just too busy with their lives to even notice and just don't care. Is it let somebody else worry about it? Last but not least by any means is the young age group. I think this age group could car less about the Burner Road, VNP or who the mayor even is. Maybe they're just trying to make a living and working two jobs or more, have young kids that want to play sports but they can't afford to have them play. Paying their bills, food on the table and gas to even get to work is what is going on in their head. By the way I voted but my guy didn't get elected which is truely a shame. I know he would have worked hard for the changes that are needed.
