Pain management group
The Chronic Pain Management Support Group will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Duluth Clinic-International Falls, Community Room.
Program will be “Chair Yoga” presented by instructor Nancy Lindstrom. Co-facilitated by Kathy Ellsworth and Laura Clark, more information may be obtained by calling Clark at 218-278-4623.

Family Night
Family Night at the Library is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at International Falls Public Library. The Winter Reading program will begin with stories, games and items created to take home. There are no fees or registration. The program is open to families with children of all ages.

Casino bus
A bus to Fortune Bay Casino is planned for Jan. 19. Cost is $14. Call Donna at 283-3460 for information.

Reading program
The public is welcome to join in the 2009 Winter Reading Program, which is designed for families to participate together and work together to earn prizes. Those interested may stop by the Junior Room beginning today and pick up a reading log. The program runs through March 7. More details are available from Junior Room staff.

Computer workshop
Rainy River Community College will present a workshop entitled “Welcome to the World of Computers” Wednesdays, Jan. 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room SS-135. This course is for the absolute beginner and for computer users who want to build their confidence and skills. The workshop will start by covering Windows basics and using word processing programs. The second half of the class will focus on using the Internet, including searching the Web, sending and receiving e-mails and sending and receiving attachments. Co-sponsored by the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, cost is $59 which includes a book. Call 285-7722 to register.

Homebuyer
workshop
A homebuyer workshop is slated for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at KOOTASCA Community Action, 2232 Second Ave. E. The $20 per family charge is payable to KOOTASCA. Registration is required. Annual meeting
Citizens for Backus/AB annual member meeting is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 29 a Backus Community Center, Room 111. Member dues for 2009 should be paid before the meeting. Refreshments will be served. Call the Backus office at 285-7225 for more information.
 
Top the Tater supper
The public is welcome to a “Top the Tater” supper from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Backus Community Center Reception Room. The supper is sponsored by Border State Bank. Suggested donation of $5 includes baked potato, toppings, salad, beverage and dessert. The supper precedes the “Boundary Water Boys” concert at 7 at Backus Auditorium.
 
Word 2007 Basic
Rainy River Community College will present a Microsoft Word 2007 Basic Workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 22, 29 and Feb. 5 in Room SS-135. Participants will learn to master basic Word 2007 skills, including creating and editing documents; formatting text, paragraphs and documents; and using tables. Lecture series
The Heart of the Continent Partnership will feature the second presentation of the Heart of the Continent Partnership Lecture Series — Lake Sturgeon Research and Management in the Namakan System — by Darryl McLeod, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Steve Windels, Voyageurs National Park , at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Rainy River Community College. This talk will focus on current research of Lake Sturgeon throughout the Namakan System, including the Namakan Reservoir and the Namakan River and its tributaries. The program is free and reservations are not required.

Music presentation
“Borderland Pioneers” will present music to kick off Ice Box Days at 10:30 a.m Thursday at Koochiching County Senior Center.

Awards ceremony
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will gather at 7 p.m. Tuesday for an awards ceremony at the VFW Post. The regular meeting will get underway at 7:30.
