Trail ride, potluck
Rainy River Riders Saddle Club will conduct a trail ride and potluck at Dancing Sky Ranch, Loman, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Everyone is welcome. RRRSC members ride for free. For more information and/or directions, contact Shana Wright at 763-567-9169.
Word workshop
Rainy River Community College will present a Microsoft Word 2007 Basic Workshop Tuesdays, Oct. 14, 21 and 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room SS-135. Participants will learn to master basic Word 2007 skills, including creating and editing documents; formatting text, paragraphs and documents; and using tables. The workshop would benefit those who have recently upgraded to Office 2007. Co-sponsored by the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, cost is $49 which includes a book. Business of the Day
The MN Army National Guard and Active Duty will be featured as the “Business of the Day” at the WorkForce Center located on the Rainy River Community College campus in Room SC-128 from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 1. A recruiter will be available to discuss career opportunities, benefits, and incentives available through the National Guard. The event is open to the public and provides an opportunity to learn about rewarding occupations.
FHS Yearbooks
Reservations are being taken for 2008-09 Falls High School Yearbooks today through Friday at the school’s concession booth during all three school lunches. A $20 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a copy for a non-personalized book. In order to be guaranteed a yearbook in May, books must pre-ordered.
Curling registration
Curling registration for the 2008-09 season is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Fort Frances Curling Club, located at Portage Avenue and Eighth Street. Registration forms are available online at www.fortfrancescurlingclub.ca.
Family potluck
A Community Education-sponsored potluck for families with children with special needs — including families with children with physical, cognitive, or emotional special needs and their parents and siblings throughout the community — is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Falls High School cafeteria. Moose meal
The Moose Lodge will serve a Meal-in-a-Dish at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Pain management
The Chronic Pain Management Support Group will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Duluth Clinic-International Falls, Community Room. Topic of discussion is “Fibromyalgia — Wide Spread Pain, What Is It, What the Person and Family Needs to Know,” presented by Dr. Dean Cowman, B.S./D.C. There is no charge. Complimentary refreshments will be available. People with chronic pain, family, caregivers and friends are encouraged to attend. Meeting facilitators are Kathy Ellsworth and Laura Clark.
Leaf tour
The Fifty-Five Plus group from Evangelical Covenant Church, 1631 First Ave. E., will have their annual leaf tour Thursday, traveling to Grand Rapids. The group will leave the church at 10 a.m. and return approximately 4 p.m.
Bingo
Persons 18 and older are welcome to play Bingo at 1 p.m. Tuesdays at Koochiching County Senior Center.
‘Celebrate Recovery’
We’ve all been hurt by other people, we’ve hurt ourselves, and we’ve hurt others. As a result, every single one of us ends up with some sort of hurt, hang-up or habit. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-based, 12-step program and the group meets every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church. Everyone is welcome.
The Lamplighters
The Lamplighters, an on-going women’s support group for survivors of incest and/or childhood sexual abuse, will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the Sunrise Center Against Sexual Abuse, 203 Third St. Facilitator is Pam Bechik, MA in Psychology. A light meal will be provided by Domino’s Pizza prior to each group meeting. Pre-register by calling 283-9334.
Clothes Closet
The Community Clothes Closet will be open for pick-ups only, no drop offs, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 4 Thursday at Aquinas Hall, 810 Fifth St. The next drop off date for winter clothing only will be from 10 to 2 Oct. 8.
Hospice luncheon
The North Star Hospice Volunteer Luncheon will be conducted at noon Thursday in a banquet room at the Holiday Inn. All hospice and respite volunteers are welcome to attend.
Get-together
Friends and former classmates of Shirley Cronkhite and Joe Crotty are welcome to a get-together planned for 12:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Coffee Landing Metro. As Cronkhite will be in the area for just a short time, this may be classmates only opportunity to see her. Anyone with questions may call Kay Herman at 283-4024.

Music will be presented from 10.30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Koochiching County Senior Center.
Book sale
Friends of the Library book sale will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sales are by donation with all proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Library support of the library.
Family Night
Family Night at the Library will celebrate the arrival of fall beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Stories, games and fall decorations are on the agenda for families with children of all ages. No fee or registration is required.
Airport commission
The International Falls-Koochiching County Airport Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the offices of Einarson Flying Service Inc., located at Falls International Airport.
Masonic Lodge
