BCEC gathering
BCEC will gather for a quarterly dinner Thursday at the CIO Union Hall. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with supper at 6.
Quilt guild
The Whispering Pines Quilt Guild will meet Thursday in the Family Life Center of Evangelical Covenant Church. Sewing will start at 6 p.m. and the guild meeting at 7. Members are to come whenever possible. Work will continue on baby quilts for the hospital baby shower. The business meeting will include planning for the Community Quilt Show set for May 2-3. Quilters are reminded to wear a nametag, bring a fat quarter of pastel fabric for the drawing and bring two appliqué blocks that were demonstrated at the last meeting if they wish to take part in the block exchange. Show and Tell items are always welcome. All area quilters of any level of experience are welcome to attend.
‘Christian Connection’
Heartland Christian Academy welcomes one and all to the 14th Annual “Christian Connection” scheduled for 7 p.m. April 11 at Evangelical Covenant Church, Bemidji. “An Exaltation Celebration” – a night of worship and praise with live music by local Christian artists — will feature The Berge Family, Brian Solum, Free Indeed, Wade and Shawna Martin, DeWayne Kvande, The Pomp Family and Heartland Christian Academy students. A free-will offering will be taken to support the ministry of the school, a non-profit, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, nondenominational Christian school serving the greater Bemidji community. Pain management group
Physical therapist Brian Tolley will be guest speaker at the 1 p.m. Chronic Pain Management Support Group meeting today in the Community Room of the International Falls Duluth Clinic. Tolley works with the Falls Memorial Hospital therapy team, and will discuss the definition of pain and how physical therapy can reduce pain, strengthening the body, and increase range of motion in the body. Tolley stresses the focus on increasing awareness of the body’s strength and how to maximize independence and self esteem. He will provide instructions and demonstrations on therapeutic techniques, movements to give the body comfort and relaxation. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The group is free and open to anyone experiencing or has a person in their life experiencing chronic pain.

‘Girls Night Out’
Koochiching County Health Department will sponsor “Girls Night Out” for seventh and eighth grade girls and a special adult female from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 7 at the Holiday Inn. This is a night of pampering and fun to enhance a young women’s self esteem and promote bonding with a significant adult in their life. A guest speaker, door prizes, interactive booths, cake and punch will be featured. Female mentors are available if a teen would like one provided. The Living the Questions DVD series and discussion group about progressive Christianity, meets at 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Fireside Room at Faith United Church, 1001 Fifth St. Everyone is welcome.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet Thursdays at Zion Lutheran Church for weighs-in at 11:45 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., with meetings at 12:15 and 5:45 p.m.
Peace Is The Way event
The community is welcome to gather with The Peace Cell of International Falls between 11:45 a.m. and noon Wednesdays at the City Flagpole. The purpose is to raise collective consciousness with a five-minute silent intention for peace within ourselves, our families, our community, our country and in our world. In case of inclement weather, the group will meet by the memorial inside the courthouse.
Elder’s council
The Elder’s Advisory Council will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sunview Apartments, Big Falls. This is a sharing of information for any senior or provider of Senior Services in Koochiching County. CCC celebration
Chapter 119 National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps at a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Hibbing Park Hotel. Tax assistance
AARP and KOOTASCA Community Action are once again offering free tax assistance to moderate and low-income taxpayers of all ages. Local volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and the Minnesota Department of Revenue, can help prepare and file tax returns. Tax assistance is available at the KOOTASCA building, 2232 Second Ave. E. (now located at the front entrance of the building).
