KOOTASCA closed
The KOOTASCA Office will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Regular business hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. In an emergency, call First Call For Help at 1-800-442-8565.

Road conditions
Minnesota road conditions can be obtained from the Minnesota Department of Transportation toll-free by dialing 511 on a telephone, or by checking the state’s Web site at http://www.511mn.org.

Great North Greetings
Residents who are new to the area and would like to receive a Great North Greetings bag filled with helpful information on local businesses and services, may contact Community Education at 283-2571, ext. 186. All area organizations and businesses are welcome to include brochures, coupons, or other items in the bag. Those interested in participating should contact Community Education.

GED testing
Participants will receive their GED certificate after completing the test. Testing is done by appointment only. Pre-register through Adult Basic Education at 283-9575. Testing takes place at Falls High School. Photo ID is required. Cost is $100; retests, $20; $140 Agency fee.; copy of GED records, $5. Instructor is Blanche Halvorson.

Parenting class
The “Love & Limits” parenting class will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the KOOTASCA building, 2232 Second Ave. E. Free child care will be provided. For information, call 283-7043.

Phone recycling
Borderland Humane Society is currently participating in a cell phone recycling program. By recycling old cell phones, the humane society can receive money for the old phones, with all proceeds going to BHS. The community is urged to help by donating phones to help animals in need. Phones may be dropped off at The Daily Journal, Radio Shack or K-104/KGHS Radio Station. Anyone with questions may call 218-324-2313.

Senior center closed
Koochiching County Senior Center will be closed Thursday and Friday. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on those days.

Teen Gaming
Teen Gaming at Falls Public Library is set for 6 to 8 p.m. tonight. Teens in grades 7 and above are welcome. There are no fees or registration.

Peace Is The Way event
The community is welcome to gather with The Peace Cell of International Falls between 11:45 a.m. and noon Wednesdays at the City Flagpole. The purpose is to raise collective consciousness with a five-minute silent intention for peace within ourselves, our families, our community, our country and in our world. In case of inclement weather, the group will meet by the memorial inside the courthouse.

Open basketball
An adult open basketball night is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Falls High School gymnasium. Anyone interested in playing in this year’s winter men’s league is encouraged to stop in and sign up. For more information, contact the Recreation Office at 283-2571, ext. 138.

Center closed
The international Falls WorkForce Center will be closed Thursday and Friday. Information regarding unemployment insurance can be found online at www.uimn.org.
