Humane society

First Baptist Church will host a free concert by Christian recording artist Peter Wright and his family at 2 p.m. Sunday at Backus. Wright is a concert pianist, vocalist and arranges music. Park presentation
Voyageurs National Park Ranger Beth Adamek will present “Woodland’s Edible Treasures” from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Woodenfrog State Forest Campground Refectory. Programs are sponsored by the Friends of Voyageur National Park. No fee or registration is required. Birthday supper
A June/July roast beef Birthday Supper is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge. Reservations are needed and may be made by calling 283-3615.

Pie social
A Falls Senior Citizen Center Pie Social is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Recreation Room at Woodland Park Apartments, 1200 Riverside Drive. Assorted pies and ice cream will be served will coffee or tea. Cost is $3. If you bring a pie, there is no charge. The public is welcome.

‘Serenity Sisters’
The Women’s A.A. gathering, “Serenity Sisters,” will meet at noon Friday at the Backus building, Rational Alternatives Room 101.

Community Market
Backus Community Market will open June 28 and continue each Saturday through September. Market day will be from 8 to 11 a.m., rain or shine, in the AB building’s’ Third Street parking lot. The market provides area residents the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally-grown produce, handmade goods, and specialty products by local artisans/vendors. Backus will provide fresh coffee and bars, Miller’s and Eldon Voigt will each have fresh produce, Pat Norby’s PEN Soaps, Brenda Jones will have Lakeside Gourmet items, and Espresso Lane, fresh coffee beans, to name a new. The public is encouraged to attend. Those interested in being a vendor may contact the Backus office at 285-7225.

Elks Friday Meal
The Elks Lodge Friday Light Meal will be lasagna, salad and garlic toast, with serving beginning at 5:30 p.m.
