City councils, school boards to meet Monday

L-BF to hear input on four-day week
Littlefork-Big Falls School District has scheduled two meetings to receive input from the public as they review the possibility of a four-day school week to begin in the 2009-2010 school year.
Parents or guardians of L-BF students or those anticipating sending their student to L-BF should note the following meeting schedule and locations: Monday, 7:30 p.m. at the high school commons in Littlefork; and Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. in the Big Falls Community Building.

Falls City Council
A representative of Midcontinent Communications is expected discuss cable services with the International Falls City Council Monday.
The council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Falls Municipal Building.
Midcontinent Communications has entered into purchase agreement with Charter Communications to acquire a number of systems including at International Falls.,
International Falls holds a franchise agreement now with Charter Communications and must approve the franchise transition to Midcontinent.
Falls councilors have indicated concern about how the transition will impact Falls residents. They have said that changes in services made by Charter did not meet earlier agreements made with the city.
In other business, the council is scheduled to hear a recommendation of its Human Resources Committee to approve 2009 salaries for non-contract employees and an employee recognition policy.
The council is also scheduled to hear reports from its Finance and Legislation Committee and its Infrastructure and Public Works Committee.
Other business includes license renewals and discussion about council chamber seat cushions.
The council offers an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each regular meeting and concludes with reports by administration, department heads and members of the council.

Falls School Board
Several reports are scheduled to be given by Superintendent Don Langan during the Falls School Board meeting at 5 p.m. Monday in the Falls High School cafeteria.
The findings of the Office of Civil Rights in an investigation of a complaint filed last year against the school district is expected to be discussed by Langan during his administrative report.
Langan is also scheduled to review the audit findings of the district’s Title programs.
Langan is scheduled to make a recommendation to the board on the filling of a guidance counselor position in the elementary school and about a legislative forum on Nov. 20.
During an open forum, Vic Heinlen is scheduled to give a report on the FHS baseball team’s scheduled trip for spring training.
An open forum is scheduled at the beginning of the meeting.
Also during administrative reports, Falls Elementary Principal Jerry Hilfer is scheduled to review elementary school enrollment and Assistant to the Superintendent Kevin Grover is scheduled to review high school enrollment.
The board is expected to approve four revised district policies during the meeting.
Ranier City Council
The Ranier City Council is expected to decide whether to adopt a Minnesota Wetlands Conservation Act resolution when it meets Monday.
The council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Ranier Community Building.
The council is scheduled to consider assuming responsibility for administration of the WCA, which would require training an someone to administer wetlands regulations for residents that wish to build or landscape new or existing properties in the city. The council will have the option to delegate the responsibility to the county.
The council is also scheduled to consider a resolution for a Midcontinent Communications cable franchise in Ranier. The company has acquired the International Falls Charter Communications franchise and must meet the approval of city governments to resume service.
The council is scheduled to consider the monthly operating statement of the Municipal Liquor Store and for payment of $59,722 in monthly city accounts. It will also consider a lease on a new office copy machine.
