CT scanner on order

By TERESA HAZEL, Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. Communications Officer

FORT FRANCES — Wayne Woods, CEO of Riverside Health Care Facilities, confirmed that the CT Scanner for La Verendrye General Hospital has been ordered.
“After a comprehensive selection process, we are satisfied and confident that we have made an informed decision”, said Woods.
“We have chosen a Toshiba Aquilion 64-slice CT Scanner,” he added.
Woods is hopeful the CT Scanner will be operational in about three months.
“This will allow for the room to be modified to accommodate the scanner and for our staff to receive the required training specific to this model,” he explained.
Patti Johnson, manager of Diagnostic Services, completed two site-visits earlier this month and was impressed with the technology.
“We are definitely getting a state-of-the-art CT Scanner that will best serve our patients’ needs today and into the future,” she enthused.
Woods reiterated how impressed he is with the community support
“This is another service that will now be provided close to home because of the generosity of the public,” he said.
Meanwhile, Riverside Foundation for Health Care is breathing a sigh of relief that the CT Scan is on order.
“Although we understood the process Riverside had to follow, we were also very cognizant of our donor’s concerns and the need to have this service available as soon as possible to alleviate the need for travel,” said Teresa Hazel, Foundation Director.
“It’s great news! … It’s ‘Scanuary’ all over again,’” she chuckled.
Deane Cunningham, who chaired the Just Imagine Campaign to raise the funds needed, was also glad to hear the news.
“The process has taken far longer than we had hoped, but certainly Riverside was intent on checking all the options to ensure that the $1.5 million that was raised by the people of the Rainy River district was well spent,” he said.
Anyone with questions or in need of additional information about the CT Scanner at Riverside Health Care Facilities, may contact Johnson at 807-274-3266, ext. 4205, or Woods at 274-4823.
