Black is new Falls therapist

Northland Counseling Center has recently hired Amie Black as a therapist in the International Falls office.
Black worked previously at Cambridge Christian Counseling Center and Nystrom and Associates, Professional Family Based Division, and is a member of the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She brings a variety of experiences that has prepared her for this position, including outpatient therapy with children, teens, adults, couples and families.
“Northland is fortunate to be able to obtain the services of some one as talented as Amie,” said Bill Johnson, NCC’s Director of Operations. “She will be an asset to our community.”
Black offers therapy through in-home services and works with children and teens with behavioral issues, oppositional problems and mood disorders. She also works with all populations on depression, anxiety, and spiritual issues, and works with couples on relationship issues.
Black received a bachelor of arts degree in human services with a minor in family studies from Metro State University in 1999 and a master of arts in marriage and family therapy from Liberty University, Va., in 2008.
“For me, therapy involves authentically coming alongside my clients and helping them to identify the patterns of functioning that lead them to where they are now,” said Black. “I believe that people form their identities through their relationships and that the therapeutic relationship is one place to help foster a healthy identity and to assist in change.”
Originally from the Twin Cities area, Black recently relocated to International Falls, with her husband, a Falls native, and their four daughters, ages 16, 11, 7 and 3. When not working, she enjoys scrapbooking, fishing, and camping, but mostly just enjoys visiting with family and friends.
