International Falls City Council is expected to consider a proposal to develop a comprehensive wetland management plan tonight when it meets.
The Falls City Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Municipal Building.
The council is scheduled to hear a proposal to develop a wetland management plan from Julie Kennedy, of the Grand Rapids engineering firm, Short, Elliott, Hendrickson. The plan is expected to aid the city in development.
In addition, the council is scheduled to hear an update from Scott Zahorik, Kootasca Community Action Inc., about a housing rehabilitation grant provided through the Department of Employment and Economic Development. The grants will allow eligible homeowners to make improvements under city program.
Also on tonight’s agenda is a request by Koochiching County for information about the city’s 2009 funding request for the International Falls Ambulance Service. The request is in response to the city’s action to add advanced life support to the ambulance service. The action is contingent on county officials establishing a taxing district to help pay for the additional cost of the service.
The council is also scheduled to consider letters of interest for the West Ward council position left vacant with the resignation of Kelly Meyers. Meyers resigned in June after he was selected in May as the city’s assistant building official. The council is accepting letters until the 5 p.m. today from residents of the West Ward interested in filling the council position. The successful candidate will fill the position until Dec. 31. The city will conduct a special election on Nov. 4 to fill the remaining two-year term of office.
Councilors are also scheduled to hear recommendations to approve the purchase of a computer server and photocopier from its Finance and Legislation Committee and hear a recommendation of its Economic Development Committee to approve a Chamber of Commerce contract addendum.
Other action expected tonight includes approval of Billy Dougherty to the area’s Convention and Visitor Center board and appointment of new volunteer firefighters.
An audience comment period is offered at the beginning of each regular council meeting, which concludes with reports of staff, councilors and the mayor.
