The Falls City Council is expected to create its list of agenda items for its 6 p.m. Monday meeting after city committees convene immediately preceding the city council meeting.
According to City Administrator Rod Otterness, the city’s committees did not meet last week, meaning that the agenda for the city council, which will meet in its chambers at the municipal building, will be finalized based on those meetings.
Otterness said that based on a meeting last week between Mayor Shawn Mason and U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, the city council will likely hear discussion on changing the date of Voyageurs National Park Day, scheduled for Oct. 14, in Washington, D.C. because health care will then be the main focus in the Capitol.
Also up for discussion in committee is a report from the Falls International Airport on the Essential Air Service program and cost proposals for advocating for flight times, among other issues.
The Finance and Legislation Committee is expected to bring to the council a review of its membership in the League of Minnesota Cities for the upcoming year. Otterness said that the dues for this program are $5,200 and that members of the city are “active participants” in the league.
The Economic Development Committee is scheduled to report on the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership that involves Rainy River Community College and Boise Inc.
A public comment session is scheduled for every regular council meeting.
The Infrastructure and Public Works Committee is slated to discuss the blight program in the city and possible modifications that need to be made to ordinances.
The council offers an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each regular meeting and concludes with reports by administration, department heads and members of the council.
