International Falls City Council will hear from its state representatives when it meets tonight.
The Falls City Council is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Falls Municipal Building.
At 6 p.m. tonight, the council will conduct a Truth-in-Taxation hearing to allow residents to comment on the 2009 levy and budget. The council has agreed to a levy of $1.75 million for 2009, which is 15-percent less than the amount collected this year. The levy will help support a $12.1 million budget which must be approved this month.
Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids, and Rep. Tom Anzelc, DFL-Balsam Township, are scheduled to report to the council about issues they consider important to northern Minnesota for the 2009 Legislature, which is scheduled to begin its session Jan. 6.
In addition, the council is scheduled to hear reports from its Finance and Legislation Committee on implementing advanced life support to the ambulance service; a city assistance policy; and a holiday radio advertisement. The council is also expected to renew several licenses for 2009.
The council offers an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each regular meeting and concludes with reports by administration, department heads and members of the council.
