The public’s help is needed to obtain names and addresses of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan

The Catholic Daughters of St. Margaret Mary will be sending boxes to the military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The public’s help is needed to obtain names and address. It may be a relative not necessarily from the local area. Anyone knowing of someone who would like to receive a care package about Christmas time should notify Judy Potter at 283-4159, Betty Ericson, 283-4645, or Florence Strukel.

The public can also help by donating money toward the cost of mailing boxes or by donating items from the following list:

Food — Breakfast type foods and drinks, instant and regular coffee packets, tea, Campbell’s chunky soups, fast food hot sauce packets, individual packets of Trail Mix, Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, peanuts, pretzels, sunflower seeds, nuts, cereal bars, granola bars, energy bars, presweetened power drinks, Lil Debbie snacks, candy, gum.

Personal items — New T-shirts (no logos), X or XL, small containers of Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, flip flops/shower shoes, eye drops antibacterial wipes, lotion, sunscreen, deodorant, soap, shampoo, tissues, Gold Bond powder, travel size toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine products (labeled “Female Soldier”) sunglasses, battery operated fans, AAA batteries, black shoe polish, glass wipes.

Entertainment — Disposable cameras, new DVDs, CDs and players, AT&T prepaid phone cards, handheld electronic games, puzzles, word games and crossword puzzles books, Beanie Babies for soldiers to give to kids, magazines, local papers, comics, paperback books, chess, checkers, dominoes, Parcheesi, Yahtzee, Uno, cribbage, cards, Game Boys with games, baseballs, footballs, gloves, Frisbees.

Miscellaneous — paper, pens, postcards, envelopes, blank greeting cards, duct tape, ziplock bags, laundry detergent (no liquid), mm film.

All items should be placed on the table in the “gathering space” Saturday or Sunday, or left at the St. Thomas rectory office before Sunday.
