The Community Clothes Closet, a free clothing facility located at the south entrance of Aquinas Hall, has been in operation since April 2003.
Volunteers from the six churches who keep the center operative gathered Aug. 7 for a potluck supper and fellowship.
Churches who volunteer include First Lutheran, Zion Lutheran, St. Paul Lutheran, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Faith United, and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Over the past five years more than 100 volunteers have helped stack and sort, fold and box, gently used clothing contributed to those in need in the community. Hundreds of persons from International Falls and nearby towns have come to receive the clothing, to talk with volunteers, to build relationships with one another.
Anyone interested in volunteering at the Closet may contact the church offices of any of the six churches involved, or Darlene Tomczak at 286-3009.
Since the closing of the Salvation Army Clothing Store, the Closet has been deluged with clothing. The churches involved are committed to serving the people of the area, but due to the overwhelming abundance of clothing, there has been an adjustment in the usual schedule for September only. The Closet will be open as follows: Pick up only — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 10; 10 to 4, Sept. 11; 10 to 2, Sept. 24; and 10 to 4, Sept. 25.
The next drop off date is set for Oct. 8, at which time winter clothing only will be accepted.
