Members discussed the annual Christmas party and auction
By EVELYN PERRON
The International Falls Lions Club met Oct. 5.
Dick Schaak, president, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Beverly Mayfield offered the table prayer. Karen Briese read the minutes of the previous meeting and also gave the treasurers report.
The membership voted to donate $100 to Olivia Besch, who was named Ambassador to the Diabetes Walk in Brainerd.
Discussion was held regarding our annual Christmas Party/auction. Several new ideas were presented but it was decided to keep it the first Saturday of December as in years past. There also may be a silent auction. We discussed a specific project to donate to and options are still open. Members are encouraged to bring a friend and plan to have a good time.
Dick Briese spoke on Lions Quest. He will apply for a grant. Then, we will invite local, Littlefork/Big Falls and Indus School personnel to hear a speaker promote Lions Quest for their Schools.
Briese attended a session in St. Cloud on Minnesota Lions Diabetes. He explained the foundation and mentioned the young man who spoke. He played football and other sports, wore a pump and has had diabetes since he was 15 months old.
The ice melt fund raiser we’ve done in the past was reviewed. It is a worthwhile project and will be continued again this winter.
Betty Villalta delivered Peace Poster information to the schools and we will have judging at a later date.
If anyone is in need of hearing aids, contact the Lions Club. Recycled hearing aids are available to anyone in need. Also if you have unused hearing aids and eye glasses you can donate them to Lions to be recycled.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Holiday Inn.
