Correction 03/21/08
March 21, 2008 - 12:53pm — Journal Staff
A story in Tuesday’s edition contained incorrect information, according to the Koochiching County Soil and Water Conservation District staff. SWCD Technician Ryan Heinlein does not issue wetland restoration orders. The Department of Natural Resources issues cease and desist orders and then, if warranted, the SWCD is mandated by state law to develop a restoration plan which the DNR issues. The SWCD’s role in the Wetland Conservation Act is to provide technical assistance to the county and its landowners and, as required by law, to serve as a member of any technical evaluation panel within the county and cities. Enforcement of the wetland rules is the role of the DNR, the Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
