County to discuss RECAP committee

The Koochiching County Board is scheduled to discuss an advisory committee for the county’s proposed plasma gasification project when it meets in committee Tuesday.
The board’s regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the courthouse boardroom. The board is scheduled to meet in committee at 2:15 p.m. Earlier in the day, the county commissioners are scheduled to meet as the Koochiching Development Authority at 9:30 a.m.
The county is in the midst of a five-month feasibility study for the proposed Renewable Energy Clean Air Project. The feasibility study is expected to determine whether to move forward with a proposal to construct a plasma gasification facility. The proposed facility would use a plasma arc to vaporize about 100 tons of garbage a day from northern Minnesota and possibly Ontario.
During Environmental Services business at 10:30 a.m., the board is expected to set a public meeting in September to review a feasibility study on extending the Jackfish Sewer further east.
A Subsurface Sewage Treatment Ordinance hearing is expected to follow at 11 a.m. The Planning Commission recommended unanimously the adoption of the county-wide ordinance. Following the hearing, the board is expected to approve the ordinance.
A public comment period is scheduled to follow the ordinance discussion.
The board is expected to discuss Complex business at 10:30 a.m.
In the board’s afternoon session, the board is expected to fill a full-time public nurse position during Public Health business at 1:30 p.m. The board is scheduled to review the results of the August timber auction during Land and Forestry business at 1:45 p.m., followed by Community Services business at 2 p.m.
Earlier in the day, the Koochiching Development Authority is scheduled to discuss the Koochiching Economic Development Authority’s status on the structure of a partnership that includes cities located in Koochiching County. Representatives from the cities began meeting in July to set up the new organization.
