• The Koochiching County Board agreed Tuesday to reappoint Highway Engineer Doug Grindall to a four-year term.
• At the May 7 timber auction, 21,161 cords were sold for a total value of $505,403. The price range for aspen was $16-$37.40. The average aspen price was $28.10. The average sale price for all species was $23.88.
• The Koochiching County Board was notified that Alan Kruse was hired as the county veterans service officer.
• The board was told that an audit for forest certification is expected to take place in July.
Koochiching County is one of five counties seeking forest certification from the Forest Stewardship Council and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Forest certification would indicate that the forest is managed to environmental and social standards.
• The board was given the scope of a water quality study on Rainy Lake that is expected to be completed by St. Cloud State University. The study is expected to include water samples from areas that have sewer collection systems and individual sewer systems.
• The board agreed to conceptually support the Good Samaritan Society of International Falls in its plan to build a new facility on a proposed health care campus along Keenan Drive.
• The board was told that the painting of the interior walls of the courthouse has been completed.
• The board accepted the personnel committee’s recommendation to deny a step three grievance filed under a labor agreement between Koochiching County and Law Enforcement Labor Services. The grievance, filed by a senior corrections officer, states that a less senior corrections officer was called in instead of the more senior officer.
• The board heard about the changes made to the Northern Minnesota District Fair, scheduled for July near Littlefork.
