The following people have been sentenced in Koochiching County District Court for felony and gross and aggravated misdemeanor crimes.
District court news is published when space and staff time allow. The information is provided by court staff.
• David T. George, 28, Ray, was sentenced Sept. 18 for felony third-degree burglary.
He was committed to serve 21 months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
• Stephene M. Kelly, 22, Littlefork, was sentenced Sept. 20 for felony second-degree burglary — dwelling.
She was ordered to serve 90 days jail and pay $142 court fees. She was placed on five years supervised probation and ordered to serve 80 hours with the Sentence to Serve program.
She must supply a DNA sample to the state, submit to random searches, may not possess alcohol, must submit to tests for alcohol and must take part in a chemical dependency evaluation and follow recommendations.
Kelly was also sentenced Jan. 23 for gross misdemeanor theft by check.
She was ordered to serve one year jail and ordered to pay $3,000 fine and court fees. She was placed on two years supervised probation, and 346 days of the jail and $2,950 of the fine were stayed on court conditions. She was ordered to serve 80 hours with the Sentence to Serve program and may have no contact with the victims. She must pay $934 restitution. The sentence to run concurrently with the previous sentence.
Kelly was also sentenced July 23 for felony check forgery — offer/possess with the intent to defraud.
She was ordered to serve one year jail and pay $3,092 fine and court fees. She was placed on two years supervised probation, and 346 days of the jail and $2,950 of the fine were stayed on court conditions. She may have no contact with the victims and must write a letter of apology. She was sentenced to serve 80 hours with the Sentence to Service program.
Kelly was also sentenced July 23 for gross misdemeanor theft by check.
She was ordered to one year jail and to pay $3,000 fine and court fees. She was placed on two years supervised, and 346 days of the jail and $2,950 were stayed on court conditions.
She was sentenced to serve 80 hours with the Sentenced to Serve program and may have no contact with the victims.
The sentence is to run concurrently with the previous sentence.
• Christopher R. Piekarski, 28, International Falls, was sentenced on Jan. 18 for gross misdemeanor driving while intoxicated — operate motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced to one year jail and ordered to pay $3,000 fines and court fees. He was placed on one year supervised probation, and the jail time and fine were stayed on court conditions.
• Shawn R. ******son, 35, International Falls, was sentenced Jan. 18 for gross misdemeanor driving while intoxicated — operate motor vehicle under influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced to one year jail and ordered to pay $3,000 fine and court fees. He was placed on one year probation, and the jail time and fine were stayed on court conditions.
• Tiffanie M. Whitefish, 20, International Falls, was sentenced Feb. 6 for gross misdemeanor theft — take, use, transfer movable property without consent.
She was sentenced to one year jail and to $3,000 fine and court fees. She was ordered pay $675 restitution and was placed on two years supervised probation.
Of the jail sentence, 11 months and 26 days was stayed on court conditions.
• Sandra G. Tusow, 47, International Falls, was sentenced June 18 for gross misdemeanor second-degree driving under the influence — refusal to test and aggravated misdemeanor third-degree driving under the influence.
On the refusal, she was sentenced to one year jail and to pay fines and court fees of $3,222. She was placed on three years supervised probation and nine months of the jail and $1,800 of the fine were stayed on court conditions. She was ordered to serve 80 hours with the Sentence to Serve program and must submit to a chemical dependency evaluation.
On the third-degree DUI, she was sentenced to one year jail and to pay fines and court fees of $1,212. She was placed on three years restitution, and the jail time and $1,000 of the fine were stayed on court conditions.
She was ordered to serve 80 hours community work service in lieu of electronic home monitoring and to perform 80 hours with the Sentence to Serve program.
• Chad D. Doris, 26, Blaine, was sentenced Aug. 14 for gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation — a danger to public safety.
He was sentenced to one year jail and to pay fines and court fees of $3,242.
He was placed on two years supervised probation and nine months and 20 days of the jail time and $2,242 of the fine were stayed on court conditions. He was ordered not to enter liquor establishments and must submit to a random test for alcohol use.
• David P. Farmer, 29, International Falls, was sentenced Oct. 29 for gross misdemeanor operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and obstructing the legal process — interfering with a peace officer.
On the DUI, he was sentenced to one year jail and $3,000 fine and court fees. He was placed on two years probation and the jail time and $2,360 of the fine were stayed on court conditions. He was ordered to serve 32 hours with the Sentence to Serve program.
On the obstruction, he was ordered to serve 90 days jail and pay $1,000 fine and court fees. The fine was stayed for one year.
• James P. Hanson, 23, International Falls, was sentenced June 4 for third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He was sentenced to 60 days jail and ordered to pay $142 court fees.
He was ordered to have no contact with the victim, submit to random chemical testing and searches, follow the recommendations of a psychological evaluation and take part in sex offender treatment for an indeterminate time. He may not posses or use any pornographic or sexually explicit material.

Koochiching County District Court child sup port actions
The Koochiching County District Court has determined that the following people are in contempt of court for non payment of child support. They may be subject to jail time and other sanctions if specific conditions imposed by the District Court order are not followed:
• Joseph H. Bjork, International Falls
• Myron Fisher, Virginia
• Wilbert McConnell, International Falls
Koochiching County District Court currently has an outstanding warrant for arrest for the following people for non payment of child support.
