The following people have been sentenced for aggravated misdemeanor or felony crimes in Koochiching County District Court.
District court news is published when made available by court staff, and news space is available.
• Shaun J. Demuth, 27, International Falls, was sentenced March 17 for felony second-degree sale of drugs.
He was sentenced to the Minnesota Correctional Facility, St. Cloud, for 45 months.
• Thomas F. Nicholson, 18, International Falls, was sentenced March 10 for felony theft — take motor vehicle without owner consent.
He received a stay of imposition of sentence and was placed on three years supervised probation. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs of $142 and he was ordered to perform 80 hours community service. He was ordered not to possess alcohol or drugs, complete alcohol assessment, submit to random testing and searches and supply a DNA sample to the state.
• Kaleb D. Riggs, 19, International Falls, was sentenced Sept. 17, 2007, for felony third-degree burglary.
He was given a stay of imposition of sentence and placed on five years supervised probation. He was ordered to spend 60 days in the county jail and to pay $17,078 in restitution. He was also sentenced to pay $142 fine and court costs.
He was ordered to supply a DNA sample and follow the recommendations of a psychological evaluation. He may not use or possess alcohol or drugs and must submit to random testing.
• Heidi J. Christensen, 42, International Falls, was sentenced June 18, 2007, for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
She was sentenced to 30 days jail and $142 fine and court costs. She was placed on five years supervised probation and ordered to perform 100 hours community work service. She must supply a DNA sample and follow the recommendations of an evaluation and submit to random searches. She may not possess or use alcohol or drugs.
• Taylor C. Nelson, 23, Littlefork, was sentenced March 10 for gross misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced to one year in the county jail and $3,222 fine and court costs. Nine months of the jail time and $2,450 was stayed on court conditions and he was placed on three years supervised probation.
• Douglas R. Ramsey, 28, International Falls, was sentenced Aug. 6, 2007, for gross misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced to one year in the county jail and ordered to pay fine and court costs of $3,217. Nine months and two days of the jail and $1,800 was stayed on court conditions and he was placed on three years supervised probation. He was ordered to perform 80 hours of community work service and to follow the recommendations of a chemical dependency evaluation. He may not enter bars or liquor stores and must submit to random searches.
• Robert J. Greenwaldt, 24, International Falls, was sentenced Jan. 18 on two counts of gross misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
On one DWI, he was sentenced to serve one year in the county jail , pay $3,000 fine and court costs and $500 restitution. The jail time and fine was stayed on court conditions and he was placed on three years supervised probation.
On the other charge, he was sentenced to one year in the county jail and $3,000 fine and court costs. The fine and jail time were stayed on court conditions and he was placed on supervised probation for three years.
• Joseph L. Napper, 30, International Falls, was sentenced Feb. 28 to gross misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was sentenced to one year jail and $3,092 in fine and court costs. He was placed on three years probation. The jail and $2,950 was stayed on court conditions. He may not use alcohol or enter places where it is being used. He must follow the recommendations of a chemical dependency evaluation.
• Kimberly A. Carter, 22, Homer, Ill., was sentenced Jan. 8 for gross misdemeanor receiving stolen property.
She was sentenced to serve 88 days in the county jail.
